So Gormley wants us to cross our hearts, and hope to die...

Post by VDubbin »

The Green Party in Ireland have announced that they want all drivers of commercial vehicles to swear that they will only be used for commercial purposes, or they'll face a penalty of €900 if caught doing otherwise...

Fecking G'bshites, I'd love to see them try to get this passed...

It's one thing to declare the vehicle commercially at the Tax office, but now he wants us to go to the Gardaí as well?

Blood beginning to boil ,
Why the hell would we do things legally in this country cos those that try get punished and those that don't just get away with it , the should be incentivising not victimising , they have their heads up their arses , they should have a name change to the brown party cos they are full of it

What about those who own a van, but can't afford a non commercial vehicle to drive as well. Doubt they would be able to afford the €900 either..

Bloody crazy..

There's an update from the Dept of the Environment, it will only affect owners changing from private to commerical. Apparently there's been a spate of young lads commercially taxing carvans and carrying people in the back. If you've already got commercial tax on the van, nothing changes.

Probably unrealated, but I got stopped by the police a while ago (for probably literally the 30th time in two years, local to my house), he tried to say I wasnt insured to carry a passenger or to be out driving when I wasnt going to work.

I never heard anything as crazy as this in all my life, sure what about us that use the van for work and use it privately at the weekends and when were not working, sure we aint going to buy a car to leave sitting up during the week and only use it at the weekend, in my opinion they should concentrate on things that matter like getting the country back in order rather than making it worse and making people even more angry with the government... rant over

Its a bit of a mess alright... they aren't very clear on what the "rules" "laws" are??

Some say its only when you registering or Vrt-ing an import, to stop the likes of x5's, Range rovers etc being classed as comercials and driven as a "private motor".. others say its for all vans, jeeps, trucks etc and the "law" was always there? I have heard of a few lads being asked to get that rf111 (or whatever its called) stamped at a garda station before they will tax it? but have been told that it should be only those reging a new "commercial" or Vrting an import that are required to declare there car commercial using this form... Not very clear at all??

I can see problems like

Why should someone that taxed a van privately have to pay commercial rates for toll roads/bridges etc?

Hows can they prove what you are doing when they pull you over? even at say 2am in the morning? any good solictitor will get that thrown out of court.

Parking in loading bays, say your insured commercial and domestic "pleasure?" and your forced to tax it privately, what happens with the likes of loading bays? coz any privately taxed vehicle can and will be clamped?

I got a broker to sort my insurance on my caddy and they said "your van HAS to be insured commercial", there is no domestic or private driving cover stated on my policy, I am down as an IT contractor on my policy which I am registered as with the revenue, though I am back in college this week, I told my broker this, but technically I will be breaking this law driving my van to college?? Even though I am register as a contractor and the courses I attend are to do with my business!

Lads that have just a commercial that bring their kids to school will be technically breaking the law? Sure even commuting to your workplace can technically be breaking the law?

NCT and Doe? Which do you get? they are saying its a DOE as its commercial, but shouldn't a privately taxed van be NCTed? But then the NCT centres equipment can't accomadate vehicles over a certain weight..

Small businesses\contractors etc with Vans insured commercial and domestic have other issues, income tax (can they claim for a privately taxed van?), diesel (how do they define how much diesel was for business or private use?), BIK (Can they be hit for Benefit in Kind as they have the "benefit of private use of the vehical", can be very costly (thousands a yr))..

Also wouldn't someone using a car for commercial only reasons be entitled to pay commercial tax on say the likes of a rs4 or similar large CC car?

The likes of Farmers will technicaly be only able to use the vehicle for work, ie on the farm, sure they won't even need tax or insurance to do that? if they can only use the vehicle on the farm they don't need "paperwork" and no need for duty on diesel either, sure agri diesel will be grand, the like of tractors won't be able to venture out on the roads unless they are "working"?

just a few things above but I am sure there are lots of other issues if the "law" is applied.. so it will cause more problems IMO...Irish motorists have been a cash cow for the government for as long as cars exist, VRT, TAX, Insurance, tolls, VAT, Duty on fuel, carbon tax etc etc, I could go on, but with the tree huggers in Government its just gone fcuking ridiculas.. this law will lose more money from the ecomony than it will create.. Anyone with a brain cell could see that all duties on the price of fuel at the pumps is the most logical way to go, they just can't do it as they will have to lay off thousands of "public servants", jasus heaven forbid we could save money by letting them go, or employing them to do something that benefits the country?? and think of the money saved by not having the guards, court or prisons dealing with "offenders".. they could go out and catch criminals instead of pestering motorist for a change??

just my 2 cents on the matter....
