Stop start function disabling

Post by Caddy bridge »

Is it possible to disable the stop start function ? I know there is a button to turn it off in the cab for a short while.

You can disable it with vcds but you will get a error message in the mfds.
I found a electronic device on ebay to connect to the stop start button that makes the button remember the last setting.
So if you have disabled stop start on button when you have parked the car, the next time you start no need to disable stop start again.

So it can’t be turned off without bringing up a fault on the display?

No not what i could find, first i tried with vcds but only got the error messsage then i checked some Vag forums and i found that it was possible to disable it on some older Vag models.
But not im my case a 2013 Touran.
Google it and you will find alot about start stop.

On the rear terminal of the battery on my van (2017 Highline 150 DSG) there is a plug with two wires facing towards the front of the van, I unplugged that and it disabled the stop start.

Is that not the feed from the IBS, that enables other functions such as alternator charging on braking etc? What else is affected if the ECU is not monitoring flow in & out of the battery?

Didn’t seem to have any effect, van is running as normal. A lot of these systems have to meet so many parameters to operate I doubt they kicked in that much.

Why do you want to disable it out of interest?

Stop start, it’s a pain in the arse with DSG and dangerous. The van has shut the engine off as you come up to roundabouts without it coming to a stop and if it’s clear and you want to go you have to wait for the sodding thing to start again. If I knew a way of disabling it permanently with VCDS I would.

I'm fairly sure it's not supposed to turn the engine off when you are still moving, I'd get that checked out by VW.
I've driven a few DSGs with start stop and never had a problem. I do tend to relax my pressure on the brake pedal once I'm at a complete stop, this might prevent the engine stopping as it'll be expecting the pedal to come up fully and set off.

Happened to me few times as well. Engine switched off while car was still rolling coming to a stop. Defo annoying. Trying to get the pcb board sorted so it will disable it hopefully. I didn’t try to mess with any coding to try

I don’t seem to have any issues at all with DSG to be honest in my wife’s Scirocco.

Whilst looking for something else I found this

http://www.canm8.com/special-vehicle-so ... d-off.html

Box that turns off start stop each time the ignition is switched on but it says you can also reinstate it once the engine is running.

It can be bought from a distributer here for £80 http://www.ncs-systems.com/canm8-ed-off.html
