Retrofit a passenger airbag

Post by Killerkp »

I’m wondering if it possible to retrofit a passenger airbag? I’ve got a 2011 Caddy Maxi ex British Gas and I often drive with a passenger.

This is something I’ve thought about too. It’s a disgrace that a vehicle built in 2011 (same as mine) only has 1 airbag.
The life model has a passenger airbag (it ways airbag where ours says caddy) so it may be possible.

I'd be interested in this as well, I'm assuming the passenger side of the dash is different? Which would mean changing the whole thing?

I’m guessing that to save on manufacturing costs, it’s the same dash just without the airbag and related sensors and electrics, but I could be wrong. I’m wondering weather checking part numbers would give more info?

I’m searching to see if I can find a diagram and parts. I would say we need the air bag, fixing bracket, wiring, pressure sensor, deactivation switch and air bag controller/ecu

Nice one, I wondered where the passenger airbag deployed from? Underneath, weakened panel, existing dash panel?

You defo need the complete dash with the passenger airbag motive/logo. It is not just a case of retro fitting a passenger airbag to the existing Caddy dash. Just to add to this also a passenger airbag and side airbags where an option when ordering my 2011 Caddy from new. I did not bother.

Don`t know the part numbers required but just the cost of doing it with new parts is going to be over a grand. Your best bet if you wanted to do it is to find a donor vehicle with the passenger airbag dash which maybe difficult.

This is a link to the dash, including air bag. I guess a wiring loom is needed and a different airbag module?
