Roof racks.

Post by Towner11 »

Morning all. I am looking at getting a new roof rack on my 07 van and found this guy... https://retroracks.com and wondered if anyone has had one made?

Looks good but nothing beats an actual review/word of mouth recommendation.

What you planning on using the racks for?

I have some vangaurd ones for work and can get 8 x 4 sheets on the top no problem.

They will be hold my ladders for work. Got some slim bars on atm but they can’t hold enough weight when I have both sets and my step ladders on. Gives them quite a bow.

Like the look of these and as I very rarely get 8x4 sheets I’m thinking about the narrow version.

Yeah mate they are really good. There's another company that did something similar to what you had in the link you sent but I feel like it looks like an aerial on top of the van.
Liked the slimmer nature of these ones.
These have done me proud. Normally have ladders on them but just off in the pic. Just make sure you get some ladder clamps.

I think mine can hold about 150kg. Put it this way I've had 7 35kg doors on them at one point. And still solid.

I agree ladder clamps are a must, my current bars are too wide for them, so used some bungees I found in the bottom of my tool box... one snapped bungee, a ripped roof bar and ladders on the side of the road resulted in a trip straight to the yard for some ratchet straps.

Still gives me nightmares.

Thanks both shall look into it and see what I can get. I guess my speakers are going to take another step back on the list. Ha

There's always other things that come in the way of planned mods.
But safety is a must. Cant imagine me losing my ladders on a A road.

Good luck in what you choose.

I have got a rhino ladder stow for sale if you are local to Manchester. It's come off a caddy maxi though so if you have a swb, I don't know how that will work out

Thank you but I’m going to order from the retro place, really liking the look.

Cheers both.
