Fan on continuously when ignition turned on

Post by Tcaddy »

Hi all,

I have seen several posts with regards to the above problem and many sugestions are that it might be the outside temp sensor. Before i take off the front bumper could the sensor be at fault even if the outside temp reading is correct? Many thanks in advance.

If your instrument cluster is showing the correct outside temperature, the next thing I'd be looking at is the engine coolant and oil temperatures.
Do you have access to any diagnostics equipment?

I know this is a different vehicle but I had this problem on my vauxhall astra H tdi. It turned out to be a chaffed wiring loom that sat wedge between the front bumper and intercooler when I investigated it.
Just throwing out another suggestion.

Thanks for replies, i can get a system check from my local vw specialist. I am away until next week so it will have to be then. What puzzles me is it happens even if the van has been sat for a few days with a stone cold engine. I assume if the outside temp reading is correct then it is unlikely to be the sensor. I'll have alook at the wiring in the meantime. Thanks again guys.

Sometimes the resistor modules within the cooling fans fail causing them to run permanently, forgot to mention this in my first post.
