Steering wheel help required.

Post by Exuptoy »

I’ve found the hidden holes at the rear of my new Caddy 18 steering wheel and poppped one spring off, however the spring has become detached (it has come out of the side of the airbag but the other side seems anchored so I cannot get the air bag out!!!

The Caddy4 airbags are not very easy to remove. There are three spring clips to hold it on but only two positions to get a screwdriver in. One position will release two clips.
It takes time and persistence to get them off, if you get to a point where it seems like you're getting nowhere, push it back in and start again. It will come eventually.

One side pops out without a screwdriver as the spring is missing, the second releases the AB but it seems anchored at about 2 o’clock and I can’t see how it’s stuck?

You need to push down on the the air bag while pushing the spring clip towards the centre (yellow circle) to release the tension of the three clips (red arrow).Image

Cheers for the pic.
The second one pops without issue but the third isn’t releasing.

Put it back on and whilst it did come off again, it was problematic. Not a good design IMO.

Just about to go fit the wheel. I have the both new stalks here, would it be ok to fit the cruise and trip stalks before coding? Would the basic functions still work?

Right, everything removed except for the stalks (might as well fit them now I’m this far in) how do I slide them out without breaking anything?
I’ve lifted the tab on the left hand side but I think there’s a tab inside looking at my new one.

Got it, used a slim jewels screwdriver down the side of the stalk.
