Thanks Nick, after having a couple of long wheel base vans for work I just love being able to roll the bikes off and on the van.

I'm not 100% happy with the securing strap method to hold it down to the seat mount, so will be looking to use the threaded hook part of a hooked turnbuckle. The hook part will obviously go round the floor mount, then the screw thread will go through a hole in the rack frame and a wing nut/washer will then tighten it up. Hopefully I will have some pics to show at the weekend.

Couple of jobs for today as it was nice and sunny and I had the day off.

First off the auto electrician finished the reversing camera, led lighting and powered sockets in the rear.

I then redid the fixing of the bike rack to the seat lug in the back. The strap and clamp didn't quite hold it secure enough for my likings. This time I removed the threaded hook part from a 5/16 turnbuckle. The hook obviously goes round the seat lug with the threaded part now going through the rack frame. The whole lot is then tightened down with a nut.

I will probably change the 5/16 turnbuckle hook for a 1/2" one later on. It will leave a bit more thread out the top of the rack frame for adjustment

Ok, after not updating this build for a while here is what has been going on.

This is what I started with nearly a year ago. I was chuffed with it at the time and was only going to do a couple of bits to it
Image

The journey has involved the following work:
Ply lined and carpeted the back
Fitting new head unit
LED DRL's
LED interior lamps
Cruise control
Mud flaps
Rear bumper protector
Rear lighting upgrade
Rear power sockets
Alloys (now resprayed)
Smoked high level brake light
Tailgate spoiler
Centre console upgrade
Ceramic coated paintwork, wheels etc

Now this where I am

While most of the stuff I have purchased has been good, luckily there has been just a few things that have not been so good, mostly non OEM:
Rubber mats not quite as good as expected but will do the job for the moment
High level brake light which required me to cannibalise 2 fittings to make the smoked one fit properly
Smoked side repeaters which were awful, poor quality and did not fit properly. Now in the parts bin.

Future work will be:
Smoked LED tail lights
Engine cover
Bonnet sound deadening
More usb charging points up front
Some decent smoked side repeaters
Scuff guard for the door sills

Totally gutted. Only had the van back less than 24hrs and some kind soul has opened their car door up and put a nice dent in the side of the caddy. After being polished and ceramic coated the dent really shows. Job for a dent removal specialist before it drives me bonkers

Nothing worse. I leave my dash cam on now and it activates if someone were to reverse into the front, however door dents would not be picked up. And people wonder why we end up taking up 2 spaces.

Got the dent at Mousehold Heath, near Zaks. Wouldn't mind but there was plenty of room to park. I usually try and get an end spot when I'm out. The pure grey seems to show up every little mark. Dash camera is also to added to the list of stuff to be done.

The actual Zaks car park or that one on the opposite side of the road? If so that is unlucky because there's usually enough room. Must have been some complete numpty.

One opposite, next to the footie pitch. Trouble with the design of some cars, it means doors come out a long way. I know someone who used to have a show standard Beetle, and when he took it out he always stayed next to it in case someone came near it. Reckoned he was a nervous wreck after going on a VW camping meet and the kids were kicking a ball around in the campsite. Got rid of it after that and got a car for everyday use.

Looks great, just bought my self the same colour maxi kombi for the same reason, was the head unit a straight swap? Did you manage to get the nav working?

Hi Woody67, only just seen your post. The head unit, just a rns315, was a straight forward swap. The actual gps bit sits in under the dash. I was also lucky enough to have the bluetooth setup already installed. The only bit you might need doing by someone else is the coding to show the sat nav stuff on the dash (assuming you have the correct dash to show the sat nav directions, possibly needs a highline dash).

Time for another update on the improvements to the Caddy. Well after saying I wasn't going to lower it I ended up having the Eibach Pro-Kit fitted which gave it a 45mm drop which I'm quite chuffed with. Just about the right height for what I need it to do plus it looks ok. The ride quality is pretty good. Although the alloys are only 16" I'm kinda liking how it looks plus lots of tyre wall to help with the ride. If I do decide to fit larger wheels then it will be banded steelies.
I also decided not to go the Mk4 led rear light route and went for the Caddy Cross rear lights which have a slightly black look to them, goes nicely with the side repeaters. I've also fitted the bonnet insulation and engine cover which just makes the engine bay look a lot better.

For the future I want to do the rear high level brake light, probably a standard rear light but tinted with some film. The current one is to dark for what I want it to look like. The washer jets will be changed to ones that give more of a mist, something like the Passat ones. More sound proofing in the rear, luckily I had a couple of sheets of acoustic mat stuff from a job I did. Handy that it got over ordered :) . Plus fix the intermittent rear camera.
