The GT Advert wagon!

Thought I would attempt at starting a thread here due to absolutely no demand what's so ever!

Mentioned in my 'newbie' post that I have bought this little cheapie to use it for sticking my/our logo all over it so I can get noticed.

Once I have given it a clean I will get some photos stuck up. So far it seems to have some decent foundations aesthetically for looking the part with some of the following :
  • Upgraded non gen head unit
  • Touran seat base with GTI leather seats
  • Full carpet set up in the back (inc the floor)
  • Lighting strips fitted in the rear
  • Touran front bumper conversion (Needs removing and refitting, Stevie Wonder potentially fitted this!)
Next steps are for the following :
  • A good deep clean
  • Check it over mechanically, potentially stick a new belt on it and obviously drop the oil/filters
  • Re-fit that front bumper
  • New Steering wheel, its a bit sticky :| (not sure what to make of it)

Any pointers on the steering wheel and alloys would be a huge help. Also, I will be using Flikr to chuck photos on, I am assuming it works with this site?!

I look forward to posting more things on here without no demand to do so what so ever!

I managed to get a quick photo today before the heavens opened! Dropped it off with the workshop to make sure it isn't a complete death trap!

Cant wait to get those bloody wheels swapped, refit the front bumper, remove the old owners private plate and get some branding on the thing!

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a tidy van you’ve got there.

So I had the old thing checked over today, the list isn't as bad as I first thought..
  • x2 tyres
  • Drop link has had it
  • Battery has had it, I suspect its the head unit as it needs manually turning off, whoever has fitted it has fitted it to a permenant live instead of ignition live!
  • Fault on all 4 glow plugs, suspect its the wiring under the rocker cover, its 16 year and done 156k, its probably a bit long in the tooth1
  • Will most probably service it myself.
In regards to the glow plug fault, have many experienced this issue? We suspect it's a wiring thing and probably wants a new loom given its age. Its the BLS engine.

All in all, considering the prices on vans at present, I still think I have picked it ups fairly cheap!

Re Glowplugs...

Check the resistance of the plug across the +ve pin and earth on each one, it should be less than 1 ohm. anything higher and they are on the way out. However I suspect they'll be open circuit and knackered!

The glowplug wiring loom runs along the front of the engine and is easy to pop off the injectors on the BLS

Getting them out can be problematic, they're prone to snapping in the block. I bought a can of Normfest Inject-Crack - Injector, Glow Plug and Spark Plug Loosener from ECP and sprayed the plug everyday when the engine was hot for a week before changing mine, they came out very easy, much to my relief!

Thanks!

It seems to run ok even with the light on, the phone kicks in big time though from time to time we've noticed. Unsure if its linked or not.. I will certainly try that when I get it back in the garage to sort out the light.
