New to Caddy life... Ex BG maxi build

Post by Pman1984 »

So after my wife's touran gave up at 180k miles I picked up an Ex BG maxi a couple of weeks ago to use as a work horse (or so she thinks)

57k miles with a stamped service book, body work is ok for age but that's somthing to work at.

Just thought I'd start this thread to document my progress (will be slow at times as 4 kids at home)

Already removed all the BG wiring and swapped out the front seats for the Touran ones, next will be the dash and door cards etc before a much needed audio upgrade.

Thanks for looking and all advice welcome.

Make sure you swap out all the brackets and all the air vents as a lot of people forget to do this.

Coilovers arrived today and 7 hours later I only have the rears done, 10 year old van with a few rusty bolts... Have them in the highest setting for now (I think/hope) as still on the steel wheels but much improved arch gap.ImageImage

So it's been a wee while with being away a few days for family time and generally just being lazy not much done. Got the front shocks fitted after having 4 broken bolts it wasn't as straight forward. To top it all off at the last second windscreen got cracked (insert expletives). New wheels are on but will need dropped a bit more, being a BG van the rear must have the HD leafs... So will try OE hangers to see but I'm already close to hitting towbar off the road with the incline of our driveway...Image

So after a bit of work I have the back on lowest and front down more as well. Comes in and out of the drive with a bit of space between road and towbar. Might need the relocation plates to move the rear axle into middle, not that noticeable but definitely not centre. Silly comparison of the 2 towbars, both were level when standard.ImageImage

Finally got round to stripping dash etc from touran. Just door cards to do. Also sourced caddy rear seats... From Spain of all places! The joys of Brexit and living in NI, was easier to get shipping from there than mainland UK. Should arrive this week.

Wife's touran had cruise control and MFD stalk, can these be transplanted into caddy??ImageImage

So after reading about potential issues I thought I'd throw the touran driver door card on with the caddy modules etc... Just plugged door loom in and all works... Well the button to stop the passenger windows being used on the touran lowers both fronts if pressed...think I'll just drill and tap the metal work to take the touran bracket rather than take whole window mech out.Image

Seats landed today. Just the one day delay but considering they came across the continent in less than a week that's good going.

Now to get the metal plate sourced...Image

So today has been spent getting the sheet platform out... Easy enough with the spot weld bit and a few knocks with a hammer. What's the chances the captive nuts are in the frame for the maxi seat rear brackets...ImageImage
