The dutch caddy
Hi there!
Last december i picked up my new caddy, i've got some plans for it so i figured it was time for a build log of sorts. Nothing major planned yet but who knows
Specs as i bought it:
2014 Caddy 1.6TDI 75 with a 5 speed manual, it's Pearl Black with painted bumpers and mirrors.
Options from the factory:
- Carpeted bulkhead with window
- Plywood flooring in the back, comes with a antislip coating
- Driversseat is adjustable in height
- Heated seats
- AC
- Glovebox with AC cooling option
- Carpeted cabin
- Full electric package (mirrors electric + heated, highline cluster, cruise control, automatic dimming rear mirror, heated washer jets, light + rain sensor, coming/leaving home and MFSW)
- RNS 315 radio incl bluetooth carkit
- Adaptive Bi-Xenon incl seperate corneringlights
- Towbar
- 15" VW Alloys
Modifications done:
- LED lights in the cargoarea, because the stock light is useless.
- Carpeted the side panels to prevent dents towards the outside
- Bulkhead & Rear windows tinted
- Engine cover
- Engine mapped to 155 Bhp & 340 Nm (stock was 91 Bhp & 242 Nm)
- VCDS mods done, auto lock/unlock, rainclosing, needle sweep, heated seat memory, xenon coming home (from manual to auto)
Things to do:
- Sound absorber under the hood (Job for this summer, perhaps skipped if the engine cover kills most of the noise
- Engine undertray (can't make up my mind about this one, does it help the noise and perhaps fuel consumption?)
- Aluminium accents on the buttons (in time, when i feel like it)
- Osram CBI or Philips Extremevision xenon bulbs
- Philips extremevision corneringbulbs
- Led worklights on the roof or behind the bumper
- 12V -> 230V inverter (sometime this summer, when i start needing it)
- New rims for summer (when my current tires are worn out they will be replaced by winter tires together with new summer rims)
- Lowering
- Custom aluminium ramp (for flightcases)
First job was the cargospace, i installed the led strips on the roof first. Looked horrible and even left marks, so i'm carpeting the roof next and moved the leds to the sides in a aluminium U-profile. I also carpeted the side panels to prevent damage.
Close-up
13-01-2015 | Installed the enginecover and made a sound level comparison
Without the cover
2 special bolts are required
End result
The test results, green is without the cover and red is with the cover
(6dB per division in the vertical axis and frequency is shown in the horizontal, low frequency on the left to high frequency on the right)

Re: The dutch caddy
Id like to get top and bottom engine covers for my 09 as well. Thats a brilliant result on the remap in Ireland it seems to be only about 1/3 or 30% extra after remap

Yeh second that - I'd be happy to drive on the wrong side of the road if I could have a glove box. It would be worth it.tommyzooom wrote:Nice van, great spec, you're so lucky to get a glovebox lid

My latest project is LED-lighting for the van, currently i have 4 units as a prototype with very promising results.
Stock Bi-Xenon:
1 Led unit:
2 Led units:
3 Led units:
4 Led units:
It isn't a perfect comparison but in real life it's very bright (12000 lumen output at 4000K)

That's some serious light output.
