Audi a1 seats. Manual, only seatbelt sensor and airbag connector

Post by Lockstock »

Hi,
I have some 2019 audi A1 seats. they are manual. Only have two connectors. black with two wires, brown and green. Yellow with three wires, brown, green, white.

My caddy 2015 seats I believe will also just have two connectors.

Simplest solution would be an adapter to make the Vw and Audi connectors fit together. I don't want to cut and solder on the caddy seat connectors if I can avoid it.

Any advice would be great. Although it's simple, I'm nervous about mis-wiring the airbag. Also, seems overkill to get a whole new loom for 5 wires.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you haven't bothered to checked what you have
But basically match the colours and that's about it.

Thanks for the reply.
Everything I found online says Audi and VW use different connectors, and in some cases different wiring config. I was trying to avoid getting the seats out, and finding I couldn't finish the job.
I also found some people having airbag warning lights when cutting, soldering on new connectors (I guess due to poor solder and a change in wire resistance).. So wasn't keen on this risk.

I just figured if someone on the forum has already done this type of swap I could be fore-armed..

Otherwise what's the point of the forum, why not have everyone just muddle through and make their own mistakes?

thanks again though for your help

I think to document all possibilities of seat to van combinations would be a mammoth task, hence you won't get very far with limited details.
For example, the seat both original and donor can have seat occupancy, seatbelt, heating, airbags, etc.
There is no hard and fast rule of this and that so the best means to a solution is to get exact and precise details of what it is you have and what it is you want to fit.
Getting something simple like a part number from a plug can help someone with the parts database to find exactly which seat you have or want to fit and make the task much easier in the long run.

Excellent, this makes perfect sense. I will get pics and partnumbers for both original and doner seats 👍

Adapters can be made, but as has been said, a bit more info is required.

Hi Tommy, this would be absolutely ideal. I'll get some pics, If you could make up something like this it would be amazing.
thanks

Hi Tommy, got my passenger seat out now so can get all pics and details on existing and new connectors. I'm still waiting on PM permissions and full forum access, shouldn't be long as now eligible and requested. Is there another way I can contact you, send pics so I know what I'll need?

I appear to have in my caddy:
Drivers side:
Yellow airbag connector
Black seatbelt clip connector

Passenger side:
Yellow airbag
Black seatbelt clip
Blue (occupancy sensor?)

On the Audi A1 seats:
Drivers side:
yellow airbag
Black seatbelt clip

Passenger side:
Yellow airbag
Black connector 3 wires.... I traced this, and it appears to split on the seat loom to two places, a seatbelt connector, and what I think must be an occupancy sensor. I assume this merges to the one connector with three wires and they just share a common ground for both seatbelt and occupancy sensors.

As an aside, I notices the audi seatbelt buckles are shorter than the VW caddy ones. It appears the AUDI clip will not work in the VW latch body, but the longer VW clip WILL work in the audi body. It appears to fully engage.
As this is a safety item, I wanted to check if this is suitable to use the audi latches already in the seats and use my existing VW seatbelts. The alternative i suppose is transfering the VW latches onto the Audi Seats, however this will then sit 5cm too high on the side of the seat.

Advice very welcome 🙂

Audi A1 seats are NOT a straight swap!!! lots of posts saying they are. I have 2019 A1 sears and a mk4 2015 caddy. The caddy base hole centres are ~34cm front to back with one stud behind the front right mounting hole.

The audi A1 seats have ~36.25 cm hole centres with two studs on the right runner in front of each mounting hole.

I can't just drill the caddy base as it's too close to existing holes so would weaken the base.

So before I start searching for touran bases, can someone confirm the hole centres and if these A1 seats will work.... I think I may have found the only seats that WONT work in the caddy!!! 😡

edit... ffs... I think the runner WIDTH is also different... the caddy measures 46cm... the A1 seats measure 47.5cm!!

Are these NOT A1 seats?? Please tell me touran bases will work 🤦🤦🤦🤦 Not a good day 😔

Guess nobody has fitted a new generation A1 seats yet. All previous retrofits were from a previous generation A1.

It looks that way. Is there a diagram for the touran base whole centres and runner width? I wonder if the newer A1 shares some of the dimensions with the larger A3 and Golf vehicles.

For anyone coming back to this thread. It appears the later spec A1 using seats with the same mounting dimensions as the A3 and Golf. the bolt spacing looks compatible with Touran Bases but Not caddy bases.
