Re: Toffee delights
@Lister79 The pictures from the show are stunning. The oz wheels don’t look out of place mate they are a nice wheel look tidy on your van. There not half close to the brakes joys of having some nice stopping power .
Where abouts in the highlands are you heading ? I recommend a stop at the the Bealach Na Ba if your heading up the west coast. It’s one of the most twisty roads in Scotland but the views from the top going down are spectacular (well on a clear day ) I’m hoping to get up there this year in my van. Been by car but would like to get a nice pic of the van with the view in the back drop.

Re: Toffee delights
Cheers mate. Yeah that’s one of the downsides with the brakes, wheel choice is very restricted.
I’m off up Fort William and also Skye, I try to get up a few times a year if I can. Yeah I’ve been in a previous car, you can’t go wrong up there, stunning.

@Danwatts18 has just sent me a link to a feature of my van in Fast Car magazine (now online only magazine).
It’s basically a repeat feature of the Performance VW one, but still a proud moment to have the van featured.

Toffee delights
Last weekend when we arrived at Fort William the clutch slave cylinder decided to give up and leak all its fluid. I managed to nurse the van home through night with no clutch function and swap to the wife’s car then head back up (a total of 727 mile in less than 19 hours
).
Anyhow, today I took advantage of the weather to pull the gearbox out, replace the cylinder, fit a HEL Performance bleed block and check the clutch plate wasn’t impregnated with clutch fluid.
As the cylinder was only just 12 months old VW should refund the cost of the new cylinder and fixings
.
While I was there I also installed some parts I’ve had sat for some time now; a deadset kit to the subframe and some Caddy Life sound deadening to the front wings (saw them in @antcaddy’s build thread here: viewtopic.php?t=49601).
I’ll take it to be 4 wheel aligned one night after work this week.
Box out

New cylinder in, hopefully this one will last longer than 12 month.

HEL bleed block installed

Deadset kit installed

Sound deadening installed

New parts

Failed cylinder

Re: Toffee delights
That sucks Chris, marathon effort as well to fetch the car!
I looked at the dead set kits, brilliant little things, but a step to far for my shoestring build
Glad you’ve found time to get it all sorted

Re: Toffee delights
Cheers Steve. Yeah they are decent and work well. Have a look at Custom Vag Parts, I only paid £60 for mine as they had an offer running (Normally £80), which is a lot less than the Tyrolsport equivalent.

Thanks Chris. That ship has sailed for me, unless the subframe has to come off for some reason…
