Nice transformation mate, looking moody!
Who painted it and are you pleased with the finish?

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Thanks. It was a chap in ivybridge. There’s a few blemishes that need a mop as still has some wet sanding marks which I’ll be taking back next week, but overall pretty happy. I’d have liked them to pick up every little dent that I asked but they missed a couple but not sure what I can do about that as it’ll either need to be repainted or a pdr on it. But finish wise it’s very good3rdLeg wrote:Nice transformation mate, looking moody!

Westover body works. I guess I would with the price I paid and the work they did. I’ve seen far worse and they repaired a crease in both sides on the sills which has been done well, they also fitted a new wing for me and matched the paint to itSean1066 wrote: Where abouts in Ivybridge.

Re: What did you do to your van today?
I Guys ,
As per my intro post , I have a VW Caddy 1.9Tdi Panel van , I know nothing about Vws but very experience with BMW`s as I own a few of those , This is my 1st van , 1st VW and 1st manual car , 1st commercial vehicle , Also my first car that's soo bare and base in every way , Even my E30 has more features then this , the car only has Air con , power steering and an immobilizer , I have fitted satellite tracking to it though.
I purchased the car two weeks back and picked it up 10 days or so ago, So have been going through the car slowly to see what it needs and if there are any issues . The car has been well maintained although it has a full service record from VW and has had many new parts fitted to it, I plan on doing a lot of preventative maintenance on it .
1) This weekend I took many of the interior panels off , cleaned everything , replaced any broken clips and missing screws and bolts ,
2) Stripped the loading bay of all plastic pieces and washed and cleaned them thoroughly, removed , replaced , cleaned all the lashing clamps , touched up all the scratches on the panels . Painted the cardboard protective pieces. Found spots of surface rust , sanded down , anti rust then painted ,
3) Cleaned the load bed , It has a rubber coating so was in good condition . Cleaned it and dried .
4) Washed the undercarriage , still need to washed it again properly as it was caked in dirt , but much better now . Cleaned the wheel wells and washed the exterior of the car .
5) Went through the whole exterior with touch up paint , touched up any small nicks and scratches .
6) Replaced the sliding door bottom rail , cleaned , sanded down , anti rust and painted the area where the roller runs as it looked like rust was forming and the also placed a strip of clear film on that area where the roller runs .
Door is opening and closing so much better
7) Cleaned all corners nooks and cranny's of the car .
Washed the engine bay , Found a small leak but im not sure where its coming from.
Still a lot of stuff left to do to get the van up to the level that id want it to be .
I still need to
1) Install an Alarm system
2) Replaced one of the window winder handles
3) Install PDC
4) Install Central locking
5) Install a Rear parking camera
6) Replaced the Reverse light switch ( Switch Purchase but I have No idea where the switch goes , if its accessable from the top? Or from under the car? Is it on the side of the gearbox?)
7) Have the dents on the body repaired by paint less dent removal .
Replaced all 4 ABS sensors , the ABS light is on so might as well just replaced all sensors for peace of mind, Already purchased the sensors
9) Replaced the cabin filter , air filter , Fuel filter ( Already purchased , again just something for peace of mind )
10) Repair broken headlamp clip
11) Clean the driver and passenger seats and roof liner
12) Install an Aux input to the radio
13) Remove and clean the rear tail lights
14) Polish and detail the exterior body panels ( This I will do after I sort out the dents .
15) Remove and reinstall the rear bumper ( car has a towbar which seems to push against the bumper taking if off the side clip so i will refit this and solve the issue)
16) Replace all the exterior handles or maybe repaint them ( All seem faded and the interior paint seems to be worn through )
17) Replace missing mirror surround ( already ordered from VW)
18) Book it into VW to have them do an Oil service and fix the oil leak
19) Find a way to fix the blemishes on the steering wheel .
20) Install Mudflaps , Will have to purchase these from VW.
21 ) Find and replace any and all missing screws , clips or covers
22) Find and replace missing pipe of some sort thats in the engine bay
Im sure im missing somethings but shew I have a long way to go .

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Sounds like you have quite the list of things to do to your van- should be well sorted once done!

@MWMRacing
Yup , I have never bought a second hand car before , Jumped into it with such a high mileage car , but it does seem like it was well taken care for . Im Just going through the list slowly . I must say though it rides very very smoothly for a van .
Yesterday , I installed the brake light switch on the gearbox , managed to find it by using the parts etk lol It was under the airbox .
swapped it with a new switch and one brake light worked . seems the other side connector is a bit corroded and it was missing the bulb, decided to just take off both lamps , clean them and clean the area that the lamps fit into . Will also recover the wiring , replace all bulbs with new ones and seal everything up .
Today my missing mirror cover came at VW , picked it up and installed it on the left side mirror , IT looks sooo much better and more complete now .
also removed the windscreen wipers , sanded them down and repainted them in a matt black color . The wipers seem to be missing covers over the bolts that hold them down?
Or do caddys not come with these covers?
Any idea what a diesel 1.9tdi is supposed to sound like? I have only ever had petrol engine cars and im really not used to the sound of a diesel engine .
Also wondering if im missing the sound insulation that attaches to the bonnet .

Re: What did you do to your van today?
On my UK spec Startline, there are no covers over the wiper nuts. I guess as they are only visible with the bonnet open.
There is no under-bonnet insulation. There is, however, an insulation mat fitted across the plenum chamber wall, which reduces sound transmission into the cabin. But overall, compared to a passenger car, the diesel engine sounds pretty clattery. I actually find the noise quite useful, so I can easily gauge how hard and fast it is working.

I have fitted Electric Windows, from another caddy, so all matching looms etc, couple of hours and all working.
I found a tracker from previous previous owner, now all binned
