yup rear r size. fronts too big
had new tyres fitted & wheels powder coated today. turns out the previous owner put 3 brands of tyres on (2 of which ive never heard of) & the 2 that were the same unknown brand were on opposite corners. couldn't be dealing with that. the cost cutting also explains why the wheels had been painted rather than powder coated (seemingly with no prep or primer either). bloody amateurs

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Door wouldn't close today. -10C outside, and the lock had frozen. Only had WD-40 at hand, and it freed up the lock, but googling tells me that it's not really good to have WD40 in a lock as it'll gum up over time.
Try to clean it out, or leave it? I'm considering buying a can of CRC lock cleaner + lubrication.

Some suggestions mention cleaning out the barrel using brake cleaner to get rid of the WD40 residue.

Pulled the sub frame today, gave it some paint. Hopefully it goes back in tomorrow together with all new PU bushings

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Finally got my alternator working properly!
I can only assume that Touran CAN gateways are different to the Caddy version (or maybe it's the 1.6 is different to the 2.0?). The 1.6 alternator plug has two pins, one pin 1 goes to the BCM, pin 2 goes to the ECU. On the 2.0, pin 1 goes to pin 12 on the gateway. I made this change when I originally swapped the engines over but until now the alternator would only start charging if the throttle was blipped. Today, I remembered I had the gateway from the Touran in a box of spares so took a punt on changing it over and low and behold, it begins charging immediately!
I wondered if maybe there was something in the installation list that was different, so checked them both out - they were both identical except that the Touran gateway had the rear doors enabled.

Did you get your flappy paddles and heating to work? Or the coding remains?

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Yep I THINK so. Paddles do 100%. Wheel is getting hot but can’t work out how to turn it off. I’m assuming it’s got 3 settings so just need to make sure it’s only coming on when activated rather than continuous & that I can turn it off again didn’t realise there were 3 levels so couldn’t work out why it was still hot when I pressed the button again lol. Unlike in later cars, it doesn’t seem to come up in the centre mfd cluster to show what the level is. I will investigate further though

Awesome! might need your guidance later on then to get my flappy paddles to work. Havent assemblied it yet though, or bought a SWCM..
Haha, atleast it is working! I have never seen a heated wheel with levels. But if it is, and you get it working on multiple levels, ill be real jealous on your luxorius SW. Is it from a Polo? What year? Maybe my Golf GTI MK6 wheel also is heated then?

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Its a golf mk8 wheel & an emulator to make all the buttons work. Had to modify clock spring & run in line 7.5a fuse to take the power for the heated part. Fitted adaptive cruise / modified crash radar (or someone did for me) last week so needed to swap the wheel buttons anyway. Figured made sense to add more features at the same time. Person that gave me a hand to do it does a fair bit of retrofits & think hes going to start offering it (hes known on a few of the VAG forums & local to me). If you want to attempt it yourself, just be warned that getting the factory airbag out is an absolute pig of a job. Retrofitting the module & coding etc was about 2 hours work. Getting the airbag off took almost that too. I bought a second clock spring to minimise down time. The golf airbag is a 2 minute job but the springs & fit is so tight on the caddy / polo style that as you unhook one side & apply pressure, the other side relatches. I'm sure there must be a nack to it but its one that neither of us had lol. If you need any info, ping me a PM and I can try to put you in right direction. In all, cost me around £700 i reckon but that includes new wheel trim & brand new airbag. Could have got it all for less but hate the touch buttons & the tangible ones are quite hard to come by

Interesting on the heated steering wheel…..I’ve got the same mk8 touch wheel and emulator but the heated part wasn’t done. If your buddy can do it a conversation needs to happen

Re: What did you do to your van today?
Which emulator have you got? Yep he can definitely do it. I’m now talking with him about installing an led within wheel as a tell tail for when the wheel is on. Mines got the proper buttons rather than touch but it’s same generation so will work the same way

Re: What did you do to your van today?
I don’t know the emulator, it was from Claudiu Manescu at VCDS diagnostics. My instagram is in my signature probably easier to message me there

Just gone to PM / DM you all the info to keep this thread on subject but you don't have permission to view messages. Post up in the new member section to get Doc or admin to change your permissions then message me & I will send you all the info
