Coming Home lights leaving home lights

Post by Peskettk »

Just got a Caddy Commerce Pro 23 model. Trying to get the Coming home lights working. Took it into the VW Van centre and they told me it doesn't have them. The Handbook says it does and I know the Mk4 had them so I don't believe them. I just can't work out how to get them going on the Mk5 caddy.

Any advice would be welcome

Does your van have an RLS sensor on the windshield?

It has the light sensor in the screen and the lights are auto when I’m driving so I don’t understand why they don’t come on when I hit the locks in the dark. If I can confirm the caddy 5 has them I can get the van centre to sort this under warranty.
Has anyone got a Caddy commerce pro with working coming home lights

If I remember correctly. you need to activate the lights by pulling the stalk to the flash position AFTER you remove the key from the ignition. The lights will then stay on until you lock the vehicle or for a set time.

I'll try that. It doesn't have key it stops on the button. What i really need is the car to light up at 4.30 in the morning when I start and everything is pitch black in the road.
OK at the moment but won't be in few months.
It's a top of the range Caddy with the Digital dash, the winter pack, the tech pack and the automatic LED self-leveling headlights with Front fogs. Can't believe it doesn't have the leaving/coming home facility . The van centre tells me all caddy 4 models had it and my sons Poverty spec Transit has it.

If anyone has the leaving /coming home function on a caddy commerce pro let me know as I think I'm getting the brush-off

There was another post on here back in 2021 about this and don't think it ever got resolved https://www.caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=47675.

There's a fb post about the issue that someone posted their '21 caddy had the option although that looks like a LHD caddy.

I've looked through the Caddy 5 brochure and there's no mention of coming home lights.

Maybe its been quietly dropped for some reason.

If you want the car to light up when you unlock, that's the leaving home function.
I've not played around with a Mk5 Caddy but I'd expect if you have a light sensor then the leaving home function should just be a coding activation.

OK that's a bit of progress the picture clearly shows some Caddy 5s have the feature. It's on Page 97 of the 11th edition of the handbook which is from 22 onward. It's not listed as "where fitted" or "some models" so I suspect it's hiding in the menus somewhere
How would the coding option work?

It’s possible the function is physically there but needs activating in the coding - manufacturers often do this to save production costs so even the bargain basement models could have wiring etc in place for certain options and then activate it if the option is chosen by switching it on in the coding.

You would need someone with vcds and knowledge of what they’re doing as it’s easy to make a mess!

I’m not sure how locked down the coding is on the latest platforms though as manufacturers have started to make it harder to do much (component protection as an example stops people stealing your headunit and selling it on eBay but also stops you upgrading for cheaper than the factory option is).

Thanks Dan that's interesting. I have found a mechanic with the Vag-Com software who can take look. In the interim the York Van Centre have contacted me and told me i'll be getting a call from their service lead to discuss the possibility of "Plugging it in" their words.

In my view the handbook says I should have this Function and it isn't working so i'm expecting them to fix it. If not I have the the mechanic (Actually a Kia mechanic) who may be able to take a look. Would that be a laugh if the entire intelligentsia of the VDub empire couldn't make it happen and Kia had to come to the rescue.
I'll post any progress

Hi all, just noticed this thread and have added this on my 2021 caddy using obd eleven.

Once connected, navigate to control unit (09) central electrics.
Then select adaptation
Then find the following
Darstellung leaving-home verlauf
Now set the option to active

Once completed, comfort lighting will be an option in the vehicle menu (same place you can adjust headlight functions etc)

Hope this helps some of you out :D
