If you can set up a belt sander on a bench it makes shaping the vents a whole lot easier. I found after sanding I had to polish the sanded edge then paint it black as its clear plastic.

horace01 wrote:So after spending around 5 hours trying to fit the Audi A1 air vents I realize that to do so is going to be a major undertaking. As they are not symmetrical they will have to be sanded and reshaped individually.

I went to work on one with the dremel to get the basic shape. I now need to sand it down by hand using fine sandpaper to get a nice smooth, flat edge. Once thats done they should hopefully fit flush, with no gaps.

Im pretty concerned I wont be able to get all 4 vents even. But I will give it a go. Probably leave it now to do as a winter project.

In the mean time I got to work today on the TT vents. They are all fitted but there are a couple of gaps that I need to deal with. May have a look at adding some of those Ebay metal rings or maybe some plastic ones.

I also added a footrest cover today.

Aftermarket item off ebay. Look for creationsmotorsport_uk. Its not a perfect fit but i'm happy with it.

My badge is a sticker. Look for VW 3D Steering wheel Badge Decal Sticker Emblems on line. These are available all over the internet. The prices on e-bay can be ridiculous. If you don't mind the wait get one from China off aliexpress and save!! - EDIT You want a 45mm one. EDIT #2 I'm thinking I'm going to change my badge and the R32 trim piece. Seems a bit silly having them on when other items in the van have TDI on them. Saying that the seat headrests have GTI on them so I guess it really doesnt matter. (Damn OCD)

This is from one of my previous posts. The pictures actually came from .vwvortex.com, so I cannot take the credit. As you can see the badge is actually riveted on.

You can buy a new air bag cover. You need to remove the old cover and fit your airbag into the new one. The covers are available new but are not cheap.
horace01 wrote:The original badge is still attached underneath. They are actually riveted on so can only be removed properly by dissembling the airbag to get to the rivet.ImageImage

Deleted the rear wiper today. I have used a sink tap vallance to cover the hole and painted it with a can of touch-up paint I have. The colour is not a good match at all. It's only a temp fix as the hole will be filled in when the van goes to the painters in June.

Also gave the engine bay a clean today. Need to replace the firewall sound deadening thingy.

Spoiler arrived today.

There is some damaged paint and a small dent in one of the back doors so the whole back end is being painted.

Wiper hole will be filled in, caddy and TDI badges removed. Background of VW badge colour coded and the chrome tinted. Also tinting taillights and break light. Side repeaters to be tinted too.

Front spoiler and Touran side strips to be colour coded. Also having both front guards repainted due to some heavy bird crap etching and some serious down to undercoat scratches.

A few other things in the pipe works too.

Did you get front spoiler and touran side strips locally?

No. Everything is imported from Europe.

Freight is generally cheaper from
mainland Europe than the UK. Also you tend to pay "scene" tax on Caddy/Touran purchased off eBay.co.uk I find.

I think I actually got the side strips from josh7377

Couple of jobs finished today.

1st up got the floor done.

Not happy with it really as I cocked up when trimming to ply board. I needed to trim about 15mm off the back door end. I foolishly used the jig saw when I should have just sanded it with my Dremel. I ended up cutting it to short.

Ive tried to sort it but it looks pretty rough.

I still need to add some sort of trim all the way around just to finish it off but I think I will just start again. Only cost $50.00 in materials so not a huge expense and some lessons learned.

Fitted the alarm siren this afternoon too. Whilst I was at it I replaced the original water box insulation with a new one.

After

Made a massive schoolboy error and dropped my wrench and socket when removing the windscreen wipers. Result one broken windscreen. Noooooo!!

Horace only good thing about your error is it was the screen & not the bodywork that got damaged, no trying to get a dent out of an awkward place.I think thats called an o-f--k it moment.
