That was going to be my next question! Wondered if you had seen the v fabric.

You can create your own fibre lock by using a light dusting of easy composites spray adhesive. It can be helpful when you’ve got a tricky transition and makes the fabric behave a bit like a prepreg.

Still, you’re getting great results doing it your way and often with this that’s part of the battle. I wondered if you’d benefit from a vacuum pump but I’ve found that the challenge is building a support structure to stop the part getting crushed.

When you see how much people charge for this, most people exclaim “how much???!!!” whereas I go, how are they making a profit!

Totally agree there Dan, I honestly don’t know how people can make a living doing it full time. Must be doing a hell of a lot of parts.

Another batch of parts ready for wet sanding and polishing. B-post trims, side moulding trims, rear bumper diffuser and rear bumper protector. I ran out of the V-groove material (wasted loads ) and with non available I had to do the diffuser in 2 parts. Obviously doesn’t look as neat as the one piece fabric but I’m pleased with how it turning out.

Last batch of Carbon skinned parts lacquered tonight. Complete wing mirrors, side repeaters and the fuel cap done. Tried something different with the cap because I had concerns about the lock getting stuck with epoxy, not sure about it so will see if it lasts.
Only external plastic part visible on the van now is the wiper trim, I’ll most likely have a go at it when I get the van back.
Dreading all the wet sanding and polishing .

I use the Churchill brand 2K Crystal Clear anti scratch lacquer (2:1 with 10% thinners). I’ll be honest I’m definitely not a painter, and don’t know if that’s a good or bad lacquer but I’m happy with the results.

Results look great Chris considering Churchill is a cheaper brand. I’ve used it many times but when you start using ppg and sikkens clear coat you see a difference then.

Collected the van tonight, so I’m currently a very happy man. No overspray and still have the original engine bay color/paint, which was my main concern. Needs a good clean to get rid of all the dust, as a quick blast off didn’t really do much.

Refit the harness surrounds to the seats that I’ve had painted, rebuilt the grill with painted insert and new VW badge, and put the fuel cap back on. Hopefully get stuck into putting it back together this weekend.
