Love it! Where did you get the frame done or did you weld it yourself?horace01 wrote:I wasnt going to upload any more pictures of the bed build until it was finished. As Im waiting of some cloth arriving from the USA I thought I would go ahead and update the thread with today's progress.

Friend of the family did it for me. I'm having second thoughts though and may reduce the width and lower it a bit.

Re: Horace's Caddy
As the bed frame is steel I thought I might try and use some Neodymium magnets to hold the wooden slide out part and the end boards in place.
I fitted a bunch of 20x10x4mm N52 magnets and took it for a test drive. Threw the van around a couple of roundabouts and hard corners. The bed didn't move at all.
I plan on countersinking the magnets into the wood but need to go and buy a chisel to do so.
Unfortunately these magnets are extremely brittle and 7 out of the 30 I bought were broken on arrival. They come in packs of 10 so the seller refunded me for one packet.
I was still able to use them on the end board just by glueing them in place.
For the side boards I plan on running a strip of Velcro tape
The whole point of the tape is so I can remove the boards for easy access.
Here's a couples of pictures of my efforts toady.

Beautiful work, congratulations! Thanks for great photos and ideas.
Can I ask about the rear canopy please. Besides the suction thingies at the sides, did you have to attach special fittings for the cross pole? Is the canopy effective in rain? Or mainly for shade?

Thanks. Alway happy to receive compliments.jjules wrote:Beautiful work, congratulations!
The canopy comes with a couple of brackets that slot into the latches at the top of the doors. These push into place just as the strike on the door frame would.jjules wrote:Can I ask about the rear canopy please. There is also a part that fits to the end of the middle pole that slots onto the door strike in the middle of the door frame.
You can see all three in this picture

I have yet to use the canopy but I mainly got it for shade between kitesurfing sessions. I am now thinking it won't get much use though as it needs to be removed to close the doors. As I carry loads of kites in the van there is no chance I'll be leaving the doors open when I'm out on the water.jjules wrote:Is the canopy effective in rain? Or mainly for shade?

Thanks for very helpful details. Canopy looks nice, really a shame it has to be removed to close the doors.

Re: Horace's Caddy
Today I tackled a few paint chips I have on my front bumper. Most of these occurred within two weeks of me having the thing smoothed and repainted so they have been annoying me for some time.
As I cannot afford to have it painted again I decided I would try one of the Dr ColorChip kits.
They don't sell my colour code as an off the shelf item so I had to have them mix up the paint. This took two weeks to arrive from the USA. The kit comes with everything you need.
Overall I'm really pleased with the result. I was concerned about the colour match what with the bumper having been resprayed. This proved to not be an issue.
The kit was simple to use. I just followed the instructions and watched a couple of YouTube clips before hand.
Below are a bunch of before and after pictures. My camera is not great but you will get the idea.

Removed my crappy cheap stick on wind deflectors and fitted some Climair ones today.
5 minute job. Very good quality and look great.

Re: Horace's Caddy
Thanks.
Unfortunately I scratched them when I removed the Climair stickers. I think they were actually some kind of transfer as they didn't just peel off. Very annoying. Guess I'll have to get some 3000 grit sand paper and give them a once over, then hit them with a compound and polish combo.
