Finally installed my smoked hazard lights switch today.
And my Armster arm rest. No such thing as a Touran here in Australia so this will have to do until I can get hold of a centre console from a Caddy life.
Next project well be to replace this
as I broke it doing the shifter mod. Just need to source a replacement.
Fortunately I can still grab the mechanism with my fingers to release the shifter an drive the van.

So today I managed to fix my broken shifter mechanism.
It's not ideal and only time will tell how long it will last.
Basically I heated up a thick paperclip and pressed it right through the plastic shaft. I then passed the other end through the broken piece of the shaft using the same method. I also slipped some heatshrink over both parts and the paperclip and shrunk it all together with the heat gun.
Attached my new shifter knob and leather gaiter and it looks as good as new(ish).
As I say I don't know how long it will last but there really isn't much force placed on the shift rod and the paper clip is very difficult to bend.
My only worry is that the plastic shaft may eventually split.
Forgot to take a photo so will do so tomorrow.

Also dropped this onto the motor. Think I'm going to colour code it.
