My Caddy 'R' build thread

Post by dan@biali »

There's a wire that I left there which is from the reversing sensors which is attached to the reverse light wire. I think I put some electrical tape over it but should be obvious.

Your guess is as good as mine regards the permanent or ignition live! I would guess ignition otherwise it might be on all the time and drain the battery. But then wiring is not my strongest skill!!

Hi guys if you are using the same type camera as I had in a previous caddy then the yellow wire goes to the reverse light circuit. But you have to wire it in through a relay Not a hard job due to the canbus system.

The camera is a VW one, I think from a Scirocco. Mounts under the rear door handle.

Don't blame me for the lights, that's all Matts fault!! They look really good. Subtle OE mod. I'm going to try and fit led bulbs to them as I've seen some that are canbus friendly.

I've just heard back from Show&Glow, they've offered me an indoor space!! I'm nervous and excited all at once! Matt - I hope that gives you enough time. Are Reflex planning on coming to the show?

Plenty if time Dan.
It will be all finished this week ;-)
Have you though of having it detailed before the show as this makes our paint look even better and protects it for the winter.
Just thinking out loud because Rob (Dooka) works with us on most show cars.

Actually that answers my question Matt. It would be easier for me to get a pro detailer to go over the Caddy. Is it best to collect the van first and then give it a few days before dooka works his magic or worth doing before I collect it? I'll be needing loads of advice as this will be my first show.

Here's the venue

As for space for more Caddys, its likely you could get an outdoor spot for a display. I doubt there's much room left inside but either way, contact Simon the event organiser.

Send a brief description and a couple of pics to info@showandglow.co.uk

I've also sent him an email from his website but would be better for him to talk it through with you and Jonny.

Have you got any RAD stickers? I'm planning on having a display board of some sort that has all the companies involved in building the van and need to represent RAD!

Today I've been doing a bit of prototyping. Got some Audi A3 door handle LEDs and cut a slot into the old Caddy handles. Should work quite well.

Cutting the slot is fiddly and the light unit will need bonding into place on the finished versions. Will also need to work out the wiring but should be straightforward.

My Caddy 'R' build thread

Post by dan@biali »

Sorry! It's just as bad for me you know! I can't help it though, my brain is wired to solve problems (often ones I've created!)

Part numbers:

Image

You only need the main led unit (22 in diagram) because it comes with the little plug/led holder attached. I bought 2 of each part and that was £25. Just checked my invoice and the LED units are £7.30 each +vat so £18 all in for 2 of them.
