Re: My Caddy 'R' build thread
Today I discovered I'm a frickin' genius! Matt and I had discussed the possibility of fitting some different style air vents. Having seen someone on here successfully fit some TT ones, I went on an ebay hunt and found some new shape Audi A3 ones that I thought might fit. I took one to show Matt and it so happened his vents were taken out of his RAC/RAD van so a quick trial fit and we realised it was close to just slotting straight in. Anyway, today I worked out how to get them in.
Ok, its not completely plug and play and I reckon there's a better way for the next time. I took the Caddy air vents out, disassembled the front portion, ground and sanded away the plastic until it fitted over the new A3 vent, lightly trimmed the hole in the dash where its flat at the bottom, took out the metal clip in the top of the vent trim, pushed it all in and voila. Its just held in by the fact its all tight in there and the old section of the vent has a couple of protrusions that sort of lock into place.

The difference in how the vent performs is amazing. It supercharges the air coming out! The original ones are so weak by comparison, and thats without the rear of the vent fully connecting with the vent inside the dash (probably 5mm short). The A3 ones not only open and close by twisting the outer ring but you can pull on the centre section and focus the air into more of a jet.

Nice work Dan. I'm still not sure weather to gamble with the Audi A1 vents or the A3. I do like the way they look factory
Oh I noticed today that I still have all your Touran front grille parts here.

Oh yeah, I forgot about them! I'm coming up to APS on Monday so I can make a detour on the way home to collect them.

Re: My Caddy 'R' build thread
I fitted the number plate properly today. I can't be bothered getting pulled over and having the inevitable chat with the local police so its easier just to run the plate in a legal position. The benefit of the mounting is its just cable tied on with sponge padding on the back of the plate to stop is rubbing on the grille. For shows I can cut the cable ties and then refit them as the show ends.

Re: My Caddy 'R' build thread
I've emailed them about shipping to uk but no reply. Problem with them is they look bit naff when retracted as u can still see the rails.
