Next up on the operating/garden table is the front bumper so I can cut, weld up and make fit the front wheel arch extensions. The arch kit is designed for a mk4 so the front wings and bumper sections are different to my mk3, plus I have a custom bumper so everything needs some adjustment.

Image

The wing arch piece is too long for my van so I marked and cut a section off.

Image

Then the bumper piece is too short

Image

And the bottom doesn’t fit the shape of my bumper

Image

The piece which I cut off the wing arch is going to be used to extend the bumper piece

Image

They are then plastic welded together

Inside and outside

Sanded and ready for a skim of fibre tech filler.

The arch then needs a little bit of heating up so I can get it to fit the shape of the bumper.

After

Also needed to trim the lip of the wing sections so I can air out without it touching the tyres

Thank you mate.

I'm learning as I go with all this plastic welding tbh. Although I've done a bit in the past for my work that's been more crack repairs, I only got an actual proper welder a few weeks ago. I've used it a hell of a lot since I got it though so it was a good buy for £65 :) I even had to use it on my mirrors yesterday when I snapped a lug off, not sure how I got by without one now :D

Brilliant work on those arches and your whole van in general. I've had to do a lot of arch work myself and it's not easy. Look forward to seeing all the new additions.

Cheers.

I'll try to get them primed in the morning, then painted asap. I'm getting a bit fed up doing all these little parts tbh, I'll be glad when they're finished. They need to be primed in black due to the blackberry needing a black surfacer which is all extra hassle :? Should be worth it in the end hopefully :)

I feel your pain regarding working on lots of little parts. Definitely be worth it in the end!

Brilliant work Stu!! Thinking of this kit just for the rear of my van as my 10 x 20 rear wheels protrude the rear arches and this arch kit would suit i think, i’m sure you would fit mine for £20 wouldn’t you

£20 a minute and I'd consider it Hef

It's a lot of work for something that 99% of the population would never even realise is there :)
