Very strange thing happened to my caddy today

Post by Postman_bat »

Guys while driving up a hill today I overtook a lorry had to change down
She's a 1.9 tdi chippied to 140 bhp
So I've changed down floored her lookes at the revs 4200 change gear then change again
So I'm travelling along the flat land put my foot down in 5 th nothing 70 and slowing no lights on dash zippy nothing so slow down into a town
3rd put my foot down nothing still the thoughts oh fook come to mind
Pull over into a lay by turn off engine wait 2 mins just to see
Restart no probs pull away all power back hasn't been a problem since
She's been fine

Any ideas could it have gone into limp mode due to running at full chat while I overtook

Anyone else have a similar scary experience
Thought n opinions

Hi mate

I had a similar experience where I lost power in exactly the same way but then it would return once I turned off and started up again. It turned out my turbo was on its way out and in the end I had to buy a new one, sorry to be the bearer of bad news and hope its not that on yours mate. Best of luck.

ah Jas, that sounds exactly the same as what my T5 was doing, turns out it was going into limp mode as the turbo was either under boosting or over boosting, cant remember exactly!

either way it was a new turbo like Josh says :(

Hope its not mate but does sound like it, especially if its ok when you turn it off and back on and its fine.

Interesting
I hope it ain't a new turbo it's only got 32k on it
If it turns out to be a turbo I'm getting rid and buy an estate car
I've had nothing but problems with a trafic I had I'm still 5k out of pocket on that

Ill see how it goes and drive her nicely

Get it looked at before the turbo craps its pants fully, a blowing turbo can wreck a lot more than itself.
A cleaning might see it right for a lot longer.

Vw had it done from new I believe
I bought it from ding dong it's been fine
I'm hoping it was a mad moment it's been fine since
Maybe cause I revved it high as u say it may have over boosted as that's the 1 st time I've revved it that high

Sticky vanes dont necesserally mean a new turbo is needed, it just means they vanes are covered in coke and wont move properly any more. A freind was advised of a new turbo on his octavia for the same reason, he drove it like he stole it for a bit to get it red hot and burn the crap off. That was over a year ago and no more turbo problems to date. I've also heard of people filling the turbo with Mr muscle to disolve it, never tried this myself though :?
