Just got this trade-spec white tdi caddy a few weeks ago, been great reading the build threads here so thought I'd get one up.
It's in ok nick and has bugger all kms, 80000.




Plan to keep this little guy pretty stock. My days of sinking money in cars I behind me I reckon, but the threads here have me thinking of a few choice changes.
I share it with the missus (she may post on here using the same handle), and is only really used to cart our bikes around (mostly MTBs).



The plan ATM is to make a sort of little 'rally' type caddy, with small-ish wheels and fat tyres, but with a little drop as well.
Are there holes under the side bumper strips? would really love to get rid of those ugly things

So the rough plans:

Get the minor dents pulled out of the body
Some flappy rally mudflaps, any suggestions?
GTi (or GTD) tartan seats, would like to retain the stock bases
Drop kit, maybe with damping adjustable coilovers, stock shocks are shocking....
Replace panels in rear with some nice birch ply and fit an LED roof-light
Wheels, undecided by leaning towards basset racing steelies (or maybe some whacky three piece) with some fatty tyres

Will be a glacial project but hopefully something happens, but I do seem to just spend all my $$$ on bikes.
Anyway, first mod was some gaffer tape on the drivers mirror to stop the awful whistling, and the second and most important was the badge update:




Would have loved to have the letters all the same height but the preservation of total badge height is a close second in terms of pleasing results.

Was more expensive than planned but finally found time to fab a new roof panel.

Originally wanted to inset the led strip flush but that failed. In the end I just siliconed it onto the surface.
Wired it up to the original light which has been moved up closer to the front seats.
Ignore the extra hole, a nice sticker should fix it up.

Got some cheap rims to improve on the steelies with flaking paint, 16*7" audi speedlines with slightly lower offset.

Any thoughts on tyres? 55 section should keep diameter the same but I think meaty 60 would like pretty tasty.

I love these wheels. Reminds me of the 205gti wheels.

Small additions, diy blocker curtains.
With all the metal around the windows I thought little magnets in the curtain would make for an easy mounting solution.

Keen to get some better (read lower) suspension and those rims on.

Quite excited by this build!

Go for it, the original idea was to recess it so it would be flush but that was more effort than I had to give.
I'm sure you could do a better job!

Loving the plans, similar to what I'd like to do, usable on the bumpy roads which mtb'ers tend to frequent on route to trails! Looking forward to seeing more

Built a removable bed for camping trips, can confirm that two people (spooning) can fit with two full size mtbs, wheels on.
I'm sure with a better packing solution I could get a bmx in there as well but this will do.

What I really wanted was a single sheet of ply that hinged on the side panel, but I didn't have enough ply for that.

So. The raddy has been through a couple of iterations since my last post but this is the current setup.

A sliding bed that allows two full size MTBs to be inside when in single bed mode.

Been on a rad tour of tassie and the amazing trails and bike parks recently. Sad to be back in reality.






Not shown is a folding ply panel that unfolds in dual bed mode.

Similar idea to what I was gonna build with regards to bike and bed situation. Still weighing up the option build a fake floor and store my hardtail underneath, that way fake floor can be used as big bed. Rather than squashed up on single.

So I did actually have exactly that for a while. A completely raised bed the full size of the loading bay, with about 500mm head room for sleeping or maybe a dash more.

Worked great, slept two and could store two big MTBs underneath with front wheels and pedals off.

Ultimately this is more comfortable and I only really use the roof racks while sleeping.
