Well done guys.... it’s just a shame it looks nothing like the original concept sketches.... but then again, nothing ever does!
I doubt too, that I’ll own one until they’ve been out about ten years or so!!

hmmmm.... no spare wheel, although there does look to be some sort of bracket underneath so maybe just not there for press release. I know a few of you arent bothered about spare wheels, but it's something i look for when buying a new vehicle

I actually think the base is pretty solid, just needs some styling touches and it could look quite an aggressive machine

Great coverage, thanks guys. Apart from the front bumper and the rail it's not that bad at all. I quite like it. I was expecting to see a soft "car like" dashboard at least for the life model, but perhaps that's too much for VW to have two different dashboards.

I think this is a Verry sad day for us VW guys.
The Ford connect rebadged "VW caddy" is here...

It's so obvious that it's not a VW product anymore.
Soo sad. Ford just doesn't make good small vans.
I hope the engine and driveline still comes from VW
Otherwise we are in _deep_ trouble.

Anyways we had a couple of good years with VW , new
Winds are blowing and it's a small market for 2 big actors
To play. It makes perfekt economic sense with a cheaper
Build van for the carpenters it's build for. Citroen , Peugeot
, Fiat , Mercedes have all done it for a long time now. Why
Shouldn't VW do the same?

Let's just say that we were spoild with a van that kept that
Same comfort and standard as a regular car. Those days
Are gone now , but will never forget what Caddy once was ❤️

RIP VW Caddy the Ford Connect is here to stay.

Got some more juicy inside information why VW decided to work With Ford on this new "Caddy" and it's all about the American
Market.

The "Caddy" will be sold in the states but under the Ford portfolio with the original Ford connect name. This is
why the "Caddy" is designed the way it is. And when you
think about it the more you look the more it makes sense.

This is interesting as it contradicts information from some well connected and informed people I chatted with yesterday who said this caddy will be solely VW and the next generation will bring the Ford involvement.

I don't doubt you doc or you sources.
In time you will see 😉

I think VW wants to promote it as a genuine "VW" product.
And mutch of it is surely gonna be VW. But the "shell" and
Platform is designed for Ford by and with Ford to be Ford.

Trust me on this one 😉👍

2020 Caddy 5 press launch and information

This tie up between Ford and VW has been in the press since 2018 from what I’ve read, first as a possibility, then a confirmation. It seems to be that Ford will build the Ranger/Amarok, and also a Transit/Transporter. VW would build the Caddy/Connect. I read on Autocar that this collaboration would start in 2022 with the pick ups, the vans following in 2023. This doesn’t make sense as VW aren’t going to develop a new van to then go back to the drawing board in 3 years time.
My feelings are that the Caddy needed updating, the Connect not so urgently. So, VW have developed this new van (possibly with some input from Ford) and the next Connect will be based on it.
My thoughts only Gents.

I'd hope ford haven't had that much of an influence, but I could see why they would for the MURICA!!!!!!! market, the new cad is slightly leaning towards an evolution of a connect, it honestly looks like VW have designed the front then said " go on ford, do the rest"
I don't like the full height connect style rear lights or recessed sides, I always liked the smooth sides, which IMO, has always set the caddys apart from other small vans.
I just wish car makers could just do it themselves nowadays, everything's just shared on multiple platforms to just put their own badge on it to save a few quid. Just with the addition of led lights and a few flashy modern touches so everyone goes oooooh that's nice. That's how it seems to me nowadays. And it's a shame, it's only premium big big money luxury companies that actually seem to put the effort in on making exclusive products now.
Mainstream stuff now is just rebranded and generic. Rant over

Vehicle development is so expensive these days. Manufacturers are ploughing so much money into electrified power trains that they need to combine forces in developing this technology or other aspects of development to save money, especially in these challenging economic times.
I too would prefer that manufactures went entirely their own way but its never going to happen, in fact, it’s going more and more the opposite way. Car companies are rattled by companies like Tesla that came out of nowhere and they know they have lots of catching up to do.
As for luxury products, many many parts on a Bentley have VW and four rings stamped on them.
