Hi all,

I have a 2017 Caddy Startline with a MFSW (multifunctional steering wheel) fitted which has the buttons for radio and instrument cluster.

Can I upgrade this to the same style wheel which has the add cruise control buttons without changing any other modules?

Am I right in thinking the current equipment setup can be checked using software, VCDS? Do you know how I would go about this scan?

Yes, VCDS would show all modules fitted to your Van. Just do a full scan and you can save it as txt file.
You can also remove the steering column trim and check the swcm part number, but the label is hidden behind the stalks, so not easy to see.

According to info I’ve found online, my SWCM part no. 5K0953569BC does not support cruise control? It would appear I either need a 5K0953569H or 5K0953569AL slip ring?

Are there any other SWCMs which would also do the job?

I'm on with this at the mo & having a 'mare!!

My van is a MY2017, came with Front End Assist & MFSW, which controlled media & MFD. Alex @ VWRetrofits thought he could get ACC working so I bought a MFSW with the ACC functions. He tried for a good few hours and apparently got the system running, but it kept defaulting back to factory settings when he tried baking the code in.

Anyways, fast forward to now, and after installing a Discover Media headunit recently, I was chatting to the guy about cruise. I sent him a scan and he said I have all the right bits, and all I'd need to do was swap out the button units in the wheel for a set of vanilla cruise buttons.. SOLD

Buttons swapped and it's the same story, no cruise. Can't seem to get any output from the cruise buttons, either during operation, or using the ADV Measure function in VCDS, all other buttons on the wheel register and work as expected. Doesn't help that module 16 is all in German, I've deciphered the majority of it with Google Translate & can't see that I'm missing anything obvious. Not sure whether it should be on LIN_1.3 or LIN_2, it's on LIN_2 as it won't accept LIN_1.3 anyways, just get an error:31

I'm wondering if there's any physical wiring missing between modules, that's my next waste of time exercise

*edit* - with reference to the SWCM, mine's a 5K0 953 569 BF which 'should' be good for cruise control

The 5k0-953-569BF does support cruise control but not cruise control on the steering wheel according to the table in Ross-tech. It's been wrong in the past so maybe don't take that's face.
Does the module accept the coding for CC from the MFSW?

Thanks for the input Doc.. where did you cross ref the CCS on MFSW functionality?

It did accept the coding for CCS on the MFSW: Mod16 - Byte2 - Bit6 ..providing that is the right coding of course.

The guy I got the buttons from is convinced it will work, he's gonna remote access it via Teams tomorrow so we'll see.

There is a Ross-tech (the makers of VCDS) page which has a table with module part numbers and their functions. If your guy says it'll work then I can't see any reason to doubt him, it wouldn't be the first time that page has been wrong.

Ha.. yea, I've become very familiar with that list recently. I thought the BF was 'yes' across the board

Anyhoo.. took him about 40s to get it all working..lol.. very irritating. Never even seen the menu he went into.. wasn't the one full of German that I've been faffing with for days.

Sweet, so the Ross-tech list is wrong.
That's one to note down.

If he's made the changes using your copy of VCDS then they'll all be in your log files regardless of if you've see it happening.
Might be worth sharing if you don't mind.

***569 BF does support MFSW, but not for automatic transmission. That what was fitted to mine from factory.

I know this is an old post but it has been quite useful to me even now. I have been having the same issue trying to get the cruise control and MFD controls to work on my MFSW. I fitted it to my 2016 highline and the stereo controls worked straight away, however the CC and MFD needed changing in the coding so they are on the steering wheel rather than the stalks.

My old squib/stalks part number was 5K0.953.569.BB and the new ones I fitted are 5K0.953.569.BF

I reached out for some help and was told that the buttons on the steering wheel weren't compatible with the squib module and I would need to change one or the other (obviously with the steering wheel buttons being the easiest to change). However, I then got in touch with the guy who supplied the MFSW and squib to me, and he was certain they were compatible as he has supplied quite a lot to people in the past with no issues (and I have no reason not to believe him). This makes me believe that maybe that ross-tech table is still incorrect and the initial information that they aren't compatible I got was due to him using that same table?

It just confused me because he said it happened to another customer of his and changing the buttons worked, but now I'm wondering if his was an automatic?

If anyone has a link to that ross-tech table it would be useful because I have tried looking for it but can't find it.

Finding out that you managed to get it coded in by someone with VCDS is a relief but it would be useful to know what he actually did to get it working haha.

I'll need to wait a few days before I have access to my VCDS and can try coding it in myself though.

After a bit more testing, I've realised that the only part of the MFSW that isn't working is the cruise control. The stereo controls work, and the buttons on the right to control the MFD also work, so I'm hoping that I can just alter the coding to get the CC to work.

I also found out the difference between the buttons on the steering wheels. Some of them have a "Mode" button and a "CNL" in the centre of the + and - whilst others have no "Mode" and instead have a blank between the + and - with the "CNL" in the place where "Mode" would be.

I personally have got the one without the "Mode" button
