Sliding door repair!?

Post by Francis0990 »

Hi I Need to repair passenger side sliding door as it won't close correctly have to be a bit heavy handed at the end to get it to lock in. The van is 2006 so to be expected. The issue seems to be with the bottom rail I think the roller is sagging and rubbing on the metal which have removed the paint over time and it is now coated in rust along the bottom. How do I go about fixing it? Will a new bottom roller solve the problem? Only thing I've noticed that I wasn't sure about, there doesn't seem to be a guide rail on the bottom for the roller just on the top for the bottom roller can anyone clarify? Thanks

Best to replace worn out roller assembly and repair the damaged paint, although it will be nearly impossible to get a long lasting result if rust is already there.
It is an OEM fix for that https://www.caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=16454 but VW have never fitted this from factory.

😳 expensive enough fix for something so simple but gotta be done. Does that include the adhesive tape required?

I had exactly the same issue on a 08 maxi. Just checked id stamp on bottom of roller arm connection to the door. Went on eBay and paid less than£15 for arm and roller all together. Works as new

VW number is odd so normally means Left.
Even is right.
In this case I think it will fit both sides, just turn it over. Hence no tape as depends which side it is fitted, thus which surface the tape goes.
Just my best guess ...

I also have this problem but on the right side which is more common in Australia I guess. I can’t open them the purchasing link because I haven’t met my post quota yet. Thank you in advance.

There seem to be a few options from eBay, can anyone recommend one over the others? I’m in Australia by the way.

Thanks for the tip about the stamp, I’ll check that out and hopefully order asap.

Can anyone confirm that we can just flip them over?
