Norwegian Daily/camper build[emoji1189]

Post by Bakkmyr »

Hi! I have already posted a build thread in the new members section, but i will continue the build thread here. Link to previous thread https://caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 23#p414723 .

I bought the van in August and i’m super happy with it so far.

Specs: 2011 Caddy Maxi, LHD, Right side sliding door with window, single rear door, 2.0 TDI 4-Motion, Comfort wall.

List of things i have done so far:
- Led bulbs in DRL, licence plate lights and revese lights.
- New head unit: Sony XAV-AX3005DB.
- Armrest.
- Led bar extra high beam integrated in lower grille.
- Bonit protector and wind deflectors on doors.

List of plans:
- Front fog lights retrofit.
- Reverse camera.
- Windowtint.
- W8 front interior light with red downlights.
- Remap.
- New summer wheels. (19x8.5 et45)
- Rust removal and respray some places.
- Sound and thermal insulating all over.
- Carpet in the back.
- Pull-out bedframe.
- Leisure battery with wiring in the back.
- Touran dash, centreconsole, seatbases, and carpet. Might get a donor car.
- Cruisecontrol retrofit.
- New seats. Want Audi A5 with tilt function.
- New steeringwheel.
- Lowering.
- Sound upgrade with subs under seats.
- Tent for reat hatch.
- And of course mechanical maintenance along the way.

I am a student now so my budget is very limited, and everything is super expensive in Norway… But i basically use all the left over money i have on this car hahah. So i can hopefully do stuff to the car pretty often and update this thread!

Here are pictures of the car.

Welcome to the forum. That’s a good list of plans you have there. Your van looks like it’s in good condition too.

Finally got the fog lights installed. Was pretty easy to install. Everything i needed was included in the wiring loom i bought, except the terminal that was needed to connect the trigger cable for the relay to the original headlight switch connector. I bought the wiring loom, headlight switch and fog lights on ebay, and the new fog light covers from a local dealer. I think it looks much better now with the fog lights. The bulbs were too blue for my taste so i will be ordering new 6000k led bulbs so they match my DRL/parking bulbs.
The only thing that sucks about doing it this way is that i cannot code it to light up the fog light indicator when they are activated. At least i dont think that is possible… This means i have to remove the fog lights before the next time i have EU-approval of the car (MOT, TUV, etc).

Today i finished the wiring for the reverse camera. I figured i would try a camera off of wish.com just to see if it actually would work. I figured if it didnt, at least i had the cables ready for a new and better camera if i have to replace it. Turns out i most likely will have to… The camera works fine when i turn on the car, but when i start the engine the picture warps and flickers so i cant see anything. When i turn off the engine, the camera works fine again. I will check the wiring to make shure none of the cables or connectors are loose, and if it still doesnt work i will buy a new camera. I was really hyped when i got it to work today so it was dissapointing to see thet it didnt work properly while actually reversing. But what can i expect from a Wish product though…

I don't think is the camera's fault, but the way you powered it. I supose you took 12 V from the reverse light but remember that the taillights don't have constant 12v but PWM signal, that's why when you start the engine the image it's not clear. By the way, what headunit do you have?

Okay thank you Sylwiu for the info. Would i need to install a signal filter to the power cable for the camera then?

My head unit is a Sony XAV-AX3005DB

Some headunits have a 12V output for the reverse camera, you'll have to check about yours. If you use a filter for the 12V taken from the taillights the image will be better, much better than now but still not clear. Ideal is to power the camera directly from the headunit.

Noted. So if i have the 12v output on my head unit i should use that as power for the camera, but still use the reverselight wire for the trigger wire? And if i dont have the 12v output on the headunit i could maybe take 12v from somewhere else?

Normally you should have 12V output for the camera. Your headunit needs reverse trigger signal or does it know automatically via Canbus that you are in reverse? In case you need trigger signal from reverse lamp than you can use something like this, and take the oldschool way

Im going to order a canbus ISO adapter for the head unit. I didnt have one when i installed it so i used power from a fuse to make it start along with the ignition. With the canbus ISO adapter and power from the head unit or somewhere else without PWM it will hopefully work :) Thank you for helping!

I believe you can power the camera from your rear wiper motor. That has a clean 12v feed.

Is it a constant 12V feed?

Yes. It shouldn’t be too difficult to get a wire into your tailgate

I got it to work! Had to wire in a relay and used 12V feed from the wiper motor. The wiring is really messy now but it was cold so i will tidy it up in the spring. Just waiting for the canbus adapter now so i can get reverse signal.
