Irish Deep black pearl Caddy

Post by D866 »

Long story with this one, bought it in 2019 after looking at loads which were frankly wrecked. Irish vans have a tough life.
It was small money and reasonably straight with electric windows and front fog lights.

Done nothing but drive it for the first three years. Was going to change but the price of new ones put me off.
So I decide to keep what I had and as I travel a lot with work and get a decent mileage rate there was no point putting big miles on a new car. Also was well sick of eating hotel food so wanted to add a fridge and cooker etc
Wanted to keep it standard suspension wise to avoid insurance and CVRT hassle.

Spec is now as follows:

PTC heater fitted (reflowed resistors to get it working)
Retrofitted Aircon
Component speakers
Cruise control
Retro fitted electric power steering
Fitted a new window regulator
Added Touran xenon headlights
Caddy 4 interior light
golf asz 6 speed gearbox and new DMF and clutch and 6 speed gearbox
new Monroe original shock and springs (golf mk5 tdi spec) so slightly lower and softer)
Caddy 4 highline alloys
Touran dash, seats armrest and door cards
Gold mk6 mfsw
Fitted 379AF abs pump and modified wires
Led lights in rear
Carpeted bulkhead
Sound proofed rear, underfloor, bulkhead
Fitted charger, two leisure batteries and compressor fridge
Re ply lined and shelved rear
Fitted additional door seals
Genuine rubber floor mats
Added a RCD330 I’ve had for years, added a USB at the gear stick and a reverse camera.
Additional 12v outlets in rear
Deleted EGR
Compounded and polished the exterior.
New westfalia Towbar to replace the original.
All new bushes and drop links, rear brake calipers, rear wheel bearings, front discs and pads, front brake hoses.
Took out dash separated all parts and felt taped all joints

It’s completely rattle free and drives just like a Golf.

All that’s left is find a black radio sound as the dash is from a later touran and I got another which is silver and doesn’t match the vents surround.

Will get a remap and delete EGR from software.
Also have a touran highline dash to fit. Must get in contact with Stan.

Thanks for all the help from members on here.

The fridge freezer is a good job. Just got to put a splash back behind the table, fit some Aluminium edging on the upright sides of the shelf at rear and fit checker pattern rubber flooring to stop items sliding around.

It’s done so that I can still fit ladders, tools, two bikes etc. have riv nuts in the floor for for holder brackets.

Thanks!
Got it remapped at the weekend and EGR deleted form software.

A new thermostat arrived along with a turbo seal kit. Will do the oil feed and return pipe seals at the weekend.

So the leak was not from the turbo feed/return pipes. Turns out that the rocker cover gasket was leaking despite a new one been fitted also the EGR delete pipe was leaking at the ASV connection.
Will seal both with instant gasket.
Also going to delete the EGR cooler while I have access I got a straight fitting for the bulkhead cooler pipe.

Got the EGR cooler deleted. Just waiting on a new VW thermostat and it’s back on the road then with a full service.
Hopefully the operating temp will be back to normal also.

Thanks for the comments.
My radio reception has been poor since I fitted the RCD330, I tried a blaupunt glass mounted aerial which didn’t improve things.
Just bought an amplified shark fin aerial which I’ll fit tomorrow, also plan to replace the internal heater matrix as I don’t think it’s as hot as it should be.
Also got a set of Touran highline clocks to fit if I can find anyone to do it in Ireland.
