Has anyone on here who's had a rear seat conversion done been able to successfully get the log book updated so the vehicle is classed as an mpv with w
Vehicle classification m1.

If so was the process difficult and did it change the taxation class?

As far as I know, no one has ever managed it. The Caddy is a van from the start, it was never a car-derived van and is LGV class since fully laden it is over 2 tonnes. It's a pure commercial vehicle in all respects.

Some people early on had a full fixed camper conversion reclassified as a camper of course, but seats and windows themselves are not enough for a change of taxation class.

Thanks for the reply
I've seen a couple of life's that are registered as M1 but I guess that's how the get registered when they leave the factory.

I've no idea how it came to be, but I bought a 2007 ex-BG Caddy last year and it's recorded as a car-derived van on the V5C. Just a bog standard van with no rear seats. It's the SDI version that would struggle to pull a helium balloon, so maybe the GVW's under the two-tonne limit :?

I'm sure the 06/07 was the last year they allowed the "car derived van" before the excise category became fixed at LGV for all Caddys and also Berlingo too. Tax also cheaper.

My 05 Caddy is down as "Car Derived Van". On the V5.

That's the reason I bought it as the early ones are not restricted speed wise on dual carriage ways etc ...

I'm about to do a seat conversion, so i'll.update if it allows me to change the class with DVLA
