So I wanted some switches and a volt metre to control a few add ins I want to do…
So Iv got the required parts and now to undergo the project…
So now to take apart the switch panel, drill the right holes into the armrest mount and fit all the wiring inside it and from there where it needs to go in the van for the power in feed and the output feeds!
that’s what I’m getting round to! Gonna have footwell lights front and rear, I think I’m gonna light up the top storage area above the drivers head and as Iv got a block pod bike rack system in the back I’m probably gonna get the wheel holders/main cross bar lit up too! All so from the seats you can’t see any wires or any lights! Just there glow…
Arm rest all fitted into the van! Wiring runs out the base through a single 10mm hole I drilled in the base of the rear cup holder so all the wires run into the void underneath! Now to connect up to a fused live feed and get all the lighting in place!

I may be stealing this idea at some point...
Are you running this from main battery or aux?
Your more than welcome to! That’s what I love about the DUB community! Everyone shares ideas and info! It’s great! Currently as I’m only setting this up for low drain leds I’m gonna patch in to the 12v under the cig lighter as it’s already in cab! When I get round to fitting gauges or doing anything that needs me to route something though the firewall I will bring a direct line back to it!
Really neat looking work this, can't wait to see the finished product!
Also bump for the above, I'd love to know which armrest you've bought and if you think it's a good buy. Got my eyes on a couple of eBay options but any reviews would help
I’ll be honest I just got a generic one off eBay as I knew I was gonna be drilled holes and cutting it up and I wasn’t 100% sure it would work or if I could actually fit the wiring inside so I didn’t want to spend a load on something that might not have worked!!
Have same armrest. It works fine even if it does feel a bit like cheap plastic... fits well into the cup holders on centre console but that's where I find the "play" is coming from - it's not terrible, but there's a slight lateral wobble when you lean on it slightly.
Have made sure all bolts/screws are tight, but any suggestions to remedy this would be very welcome
I did notice a similar thing when I was test fitting it! The way I got round it is I pre drilled two extra holes in the base of the plastic that fits into the cup holder and to matching holes in the metal brace under it that the whole centre console is screwed into, Iv then used a clip spire nut to be able to actually bolt the arm rest in from underneath to a solid mount! However the negative is Iv got to undo two extra bolts and abit of my wiring if/when I need or want the whole centre console out for other projects… but as I didn’t use any glue and it is just fixings that’s just an extra time issue future me will deal with when it comes up!
I'll get one of them, might look to solve the 'wobble' with some thin black foam padding I've got from another project. I'm thinking I can wedge a bit of that round the bottom as it slots into the cupholders, should ensure a snug fit but without drilling any new holes in case I want to remove it later.
