I'm a relatively new owner of a MK3, had mine a couple of months and had been part converting it. It's had a braking problem which appears to be the servo. Place I've taken it to says it's a pretty involved job, as the servo is in an absolute pain to get to and recommended I take it to someone with more experience than themselves. Anyone know of anyone round the Reading way who might be able to take a look?

I'd ask in the braking sub forum, but I don't have permissions as yet!

Booked it in at a specialist to take a look at the brake servo, which apparently has gone.

Anyone know how involved the job is on a MK3 Caddy? One place wanted to drop the engine, and have been mumbling about not economical to repair.

There's not much in the way of clearance to remove the brake booster servo on a RHD caddy. Depending on your engine, removal or dropping a little might be the only viable option.
It's not a common failure, that said I'm sure someone else mentioned having been given a terminal diagnosis on their servo just recently.

Heh, thanks for the reply, that possibly might have been me asking about before. I can't see the other forums at the moment so I've been trawling about trying to get a little info on the publicly accessible ones

Person I spoke to suggested they might be able to do it in around four hours, but I'm not sure if he's just either really good, or isn't sure what the job entails yet. Mines a 1.6 TDI 102 PS

Bought a replacement barn door and rear bumper. Now to work out how to fit them.
Removed factory blackout from salvage barn door I have acquired. Heat gun Stanley knife and a little patience. Job done. 15 minutes .

Checked the oil and coolant. Both empty, but car hasn't run for a while.

Next job will be to fill those up.

Thought I'd loop back since I did ask questions on this.

Just got it back, got the servo replaced and the leak offs done as well. It was mentioned that injector failures can start to occur when the leak offs are having an issue. Was something to do with the amount of pressure anyway. Both places had a look at it and haven't found any issue with the injectors themselves.

Anyway, good-ish news on the servo, all in it was £1300 for everything. That was actually under the ex-VAT quote just for labour I got elsewhere, with a generalist who actually suggested I take it to a specialist. Apparently he took the DPF out, and removed the sub frame and went in from the bottom. No engine drop required, was six hours all in, five of which were for the servo
