Rear door rubber cable sheath

Post by STP »

Has anyone managed to fish a wire up the corrugated rubber guide tube thing that goes from the door to the tail light? I tried my sparkies fibreglass fish but it only got so far. Trying to hook into the reverse light wire for the rear camera, as I've got it permanently on at the moment and it works well but I've got a bullet camera to go in where the wiper delete is so I get a full rear view and then switch to the downward parking camera when reversing.

Picked up a stainless welding rod at work yesterday so going to ball the end and try that, it's a 1mm 316L super duplex so very strong, but flexible too, as we make umbilical pipelines at work for deepwater offshore installations so those rods are easy to get hold of.

Don't want some butchered job with a hole in that rubber as I can't bring myself to allow any chance of water ingress to the door.

The father-in-law wanted to pull the grommet out of the body which holds that tube to the rear end, but I said no way, it's probably huge on the inside and would rip or be a nightmare to get back on. He reckoned we could straighten the rubber guide tube that way. I prefer to fish it through there.

If anyone has a quality idea, if love to hear it.
