Sorry folks, my membership is still waiting approval so I apologise if is inappropriate to post this message here.
I'm currently driving to Spain in my 2014 maxi 1.6tdi. All going well the last few days and today drove 4 hours and the van didn't miss a beat. Got into it then this evening to drive 10 minutes to the beach and as I was turning into the car park and into the parking space I started hearing a loud dull rubbing sound. As if metal was rubbing off something. Had a look around the wheel and everything looks fine. Got back in and drove back to the campsite all the while having the nightmare of trying to get AA and a French garage on a Sunday evening. The noise persisted for about 2-3km and then just stopped for the remaining 5. As I got into camp I heard it start again for about 5 seconds before it stopped.
Noise was there whether I turned left, right or went straight.
Noise was there whether I went slow or fast.
No juddering or shaking in the steering, it drove as normal.
Pumped the brakes incase the caliper was stuck but no change.
CV Boot doesn't look torn or like it was rubbing.
Have a 3 hour journey tomorrow so I have visions of a cvjoint or bearing exploding like some sort of Michael Bay movie while on the motorway.
Any suggestions to what else it might be?

Re: Rubbing/grinding noise from front right wheel
Got any marks on the brake disc? Could be a stone stuck between pad and disc, or shield making contact?
Might be worth stopping next time you hear it, jacking it up and spinning the wheel and having a proper feel around.

Took off the wheel this morning before I left and inspected all around the hub, discs, CV joint. Couldn't see anything that had been recently scratched. No marks on the pad. Just drove 300km there and no repeat of the noise so hopefully it was something just stuck
