CADDY brake upgrade Golf 7 GTI Performance and Golf 5 R32 help

Hi everyone,

I’ve just bought a front brake upgrade for my 2016 VW Caddy Mk4 (2K) and I’m looking for some advice before I rebuild everything.

For the front, I bought the Golf 7 GTI Performance 340 mm brake setup. I know the calipers/carriers will fit the Caddy with the correct 340 mm discs.

Because I want to completely refurbish the calipers before fitting them, I have a few questions:

1. Front brake hoses
Which brake hoses should I use with the Golf 7 GTI Performance 340 mm calipers on the Caddy?

Should I use Golf 7 GTI Performance hoses, Caddy hoses, or have custom braided hoses made?

My Caddy is at standard ride height and is not lowered, so I also want to make sure the hoses have enough length through the full suspension and steering movement.

2. Front brake pads
Which pads would you recommend for normal road use with occasional harder driving? I’m looking for something with good cold braking, low/noise reasonable dust, but better performance than standard pads.

3. Rear 310 mm R32 conversion
At the rear I currently have 272 mm solid discs (approximately 10–12 mm thick).

A lot of people recommend using the Golf 5 R32 rear setup, which uses approximately 310 mm vented discs around 20–22 mm thick. I understand that I cannot simply use my original Caddy calipers because the R32 vented disc is much thicker, so I would need the complete R32 rear calipers + carriers.

My main question is about the mechanical handbrake.

Can the Golf 5 R32 rear calipers be fitted while keeping the original Caddy handbrake cables/function? Does the handbrake mechanism/bracket need to be swapped or modified?

I’ve found information saying the R32 rear conversion fits the Caddy, but the handbrake fitting/mechanism and sometimes the dust shields need to be changed or modified.

4. Golf 7 GTI Performance rear brakes instead?
I can also get the rear calipers from the same Golf 7 GTI Performance donor as my front brakes.

Would these rear calipers work on my Caddy as easily as the Golf 5 R32 setup?

Ideally I want:

340 mm Golf 7 GTI Performance front brakes
approximately 310 mm vented rear brakes
mechanical Caddy handbrake fully functional
no adapters if possible
OEM VW parts
something as close to plug-and-play as possible

Would you recommend Golf 5 R32 rear brakes or Golf 7 GTI Performance rear brakes for this conversion?

If anyone has already done 340 mm front + 310 mm rear on a Caddy 2K/Mk4, I’d really appreciate knowing exactly which calipers, carriers, discs, hoses and handbrake parts you used.

I just realized that the Golf 7 GTI rear calipers use an electronic parking brake. Is that the main reason why they are not suitable for the Caddy with its mechanical handbrake?

Is this also why the Golf 5 R32 rear calipers are commonly recommended for the Caddy conversion, since they use a mechanical handbrake and can retain the original handbrake function?

you can add EPB to caddy also , did that in my 2005 Touran

@spacewalker I ended up a full brake kit from Golf R32 front and rear axel, GTI calipers are sold

My question is which brake hoses and brake pads would you recommend me for an R32 upgrade?
