Looking at one day converting the engine in my van to one from a MK6 GTD or similar along with a 6 speed box. Not something I’m planning to do anytime too soon but at some point. Has anybody done this or can advise on anything I would need to make this work other than the mechanical parts. ECUs, wiring looms etc. Many thanks

Re: Anybody converted 1.6 TDI to 2.0 TDI?
I was thinking of doing similar conversation to my 1.6 tdi, checked around and came to the conclusion it would be easier and cheaper to just buy a 2.0 caddy instead too much messing involved with subframe, ecu gearbox etc,

If you can get an engine, gearbox, drive shafts, downpipe and ECU, the rest of the bits are small.
There is quite a bit of wiring involved, mechanically it'll all bolt in quite easy.
There is absolutely no need to change the subframe.

Re: Anybody converted 1.6 TDI to 2.0 TDI?
Afternoon all from Perth, Western Australia.
I was considering doing a 2011/12/13 GTD into my early 2014 Caddy Maxi. See soooo many posts of people saying this is something they are looking at doing, but the threads just die after a few comments. Why is this? Is there anybody that has actually completed and have a how to on this and could give me advice on what needs to be done on the wiring and modules side. I will get a complete donor car so would have all the bits.
From what I've been able to find so all the mechanicals are just bolt in, but it's the wiring and modules that are preventing me from just going ahead and getting it done and possibly even do a how to for anyone else in the future. I have full VCDS, but don't know what needs to be done as far as coding and the immobiliser.
Any help from anyone who has done this would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hey Rhodesian, bar the odd general post in public areas the forum is essentially a lame duck at the moment. The owner Doc has been absent for over a year, and activity and users are rock bottom. Just in case you're wondering why there aren't many/any responses to your queries on engine swap and dashboard swap, etc. Not saying these can't be done, but you might not find the answers here.
I just had a search through the Engine & Transmission and How-To sub forums and there isn't any useful detailed information in there (that I could find) beyond surface level conversations saying that it should be possible with engine to body repinning of the wiring harnesses as necessary, and programming of modules and immobiliser.
There's a post where Doc says you need to swap the clocks and key from the donor to the Caddy.
Regarding wiring I've read posts in the past from Doc and others that rewiring engine to body involves getting the wiring diagrams for both, comparing them, and making a spreadsheet to list what pins need to go where. I know nothing about this so maybe someone else can chime in to explain better.

Hi kotbat79.
Cheers for the response.
I get what you're saying as this used to be the go to site for advice, but seems that's no longer the case.
Hope Doc is ok, because he was always helpful and always willing to pass on his incredible knowledge.
