Hi guys/gals,
I’m am going to look at a beautiful caddy tomorrow evening and it is a 2007 1.9 which I believe to be the dreaded BLS? Are they really as bad as people say? I have bought the van in my head already but I have do a lot of miles on the daily so it has 107k on the clock and has had a recent recon gearbox. Is this something to stay away from or are they ok? I am a mechanic so I can do pretty much everything myself but I have no real dealings with any VAG products.
Cheers
Chris.

Re: Picking up new new (to me) caddy
My last caddy had a BLS, it was on 183,000 miles when I parted with it and was running like the day it left the showroom.
Servicing is very important on these engines and being a mechanic I'm sure you can appreciate this.
The gearboxes do fail but usually when they have been run with a failing DMF. Upgrading to a 6 speed gearbox with the larger DMF will give you a near bulletproof set-up.

Hi, thanks for the replies. Doc I was planning on the 6 speed conversion, I gather this is flywheel/cutch/box/ and cables and I’m good to go? What do I need to look for on this bls to ensure it’s not about to implode? I hear stuff about injectors but I hear some weird horrors all over the place,
Cheers

Gearbox, clutch& flywheel to suit, starter motor, drive shafts is all you need.
Selector cable ends might need to be changed depending on whether you have the pin of ball type.
The BLS injectors don't tend to give trouble, I can't say I've ever heard of anyone pointing towards the injectors on a BLS engine failure. Usual culprit is the big end shells picking up and punching a rod through the block.
If it were mine, I'd change the oil immediately after purchase and then after a couple of tanks of fuel, get a oil sample sent off for analysis to check for wear.

Ah right I may of mid read it then, oil change and cambelt/water pump are first on the list. It looks like it has been looked after so a history check is in order, cant wait to see it and hopefully all being well get it home and start playing with it.
