Slam panel removal

Post by veedubgub »

Been doing some work on the front end and have noticed some cracks/damage around a few of the plastic mounting lugs in the front slam panel

Going to see if i can plastic weld repair the damage (if not replace the slam panel) first thing is i need to get the slam panel off the vehicle.

Is there any way of removing the slam panel separately from the rad pack? Reason being is id have to get the a/c system and condenser rad emptied if i wanted to remove the lot.

( will have to take the cooling rad off anyway as its also damaged)
Dont really want to have to get the condenser/ac emptied and disconnected just yet if i can avoid it.

Has anyone managed to remove/replace the slam panel whilst leaving the condenser in situ?

Yes, you can remove the slam panel and leave the rad/intercooler/condenser/fans in place.
Just make sure to support the parts you are leaving on the engine as the radiator can be quite a weight when full of coolant.

Thanks doc. Managed to get it done and supported it with some wood and a few bungee cords.

Time to find a replacment part now.

Hi mate,

How did you get on with changing the front slam panel?

Did you have to remove the wings to change the slam panel?

Many thanks,
J
