Stop-start delete
I have a 2019 Caddy and would like to get rid of the annoying stop-start feature!
Is it as simple as plugging one the things I see on eBay / ali express to delete it? Or is some coding required?

Re: Stop-start delete
I managed to code it on my a6 that the start stop button remembered the last known state, and also reversed the light… so light on means stop start is on.
Would love to know if this can be done on the caddy as well!

Re: Stop-start delete
I love start stop, I replaced my battery with a new one just to get it working as mine had never worked.
I've never seen an obvious coding option in any software for that, and I have them all. VCDS, Obdeleven etc. However there will be people with tools which can defeat it by setting a condition to prevent it coming on.
One possibility is putting a switch inline with the thin wire coming off the battery monitor which is built into the negative terminal, preventing monitoring of the battery voltage. That will prevent stop start from being available.
It will also put your alternator onto full output mode too instead of smart-charge. So it would then charge a leisure battery mounted inside.
Should be no engine management light from that and you could easily switch it back on anytime you liked.
Caddy ECU and BCM are a bit hobbled compared to the car versions, with much less options available to code in or out. Even the highline van version has the most options but far less than for example a Golf or Passat.

Re: Stop-start delete
You can also disable it in VCDS giving start stop some high temperature set point for it to work. (or not to work

Not really, I was messing around VCDS. Probably in engine section. But this was in coding section. Hope this narrows its down

Re: Stop-start delete
You need to give it impossible to reach conditions to activate

Re: Stop-start delete
I also love start-stop. I don't understand why people find it annoying and delete it. Something that saves fuel and reduces emissions, and a nice peaceful moment at every stop light? Nice one

Just fitted this from aliexpress and it works perfectly for under a tenner!

Re: Stop-start delete
Stop start is probably the worst feature that's been imposed on vehicles.
It just doesn't activate when you want it to, like at long traffic lights, and does activate when you don't, like at junctions when a moments hesitation, while it starts up again makes pulling out extra scary, or at lights that are about to change the moment you come to a stop.
I just turn it off the moment I get in any vehicle with it now!
And I don't really buy into the idea that it does not increase wear.

Re: Stop-start delete
Yeah, I just had my first heart stopper because of it actually.
Pulling up to a junction when I realised I had a gap to get out, into very busy traffic, I go to just nip out of the junction BUT it decides to shut down on SS, I clutch and try to pull out again (sharply) but in the instant I let the clutch up (too soon it seems), it went limp and shut down again but did just enough to have me roll out into the stream of cars, getting a barrage of horns and the fright of my life as I thought I was going to be side swiped hard. This time as I clutched again, it did nothing but flash up some message about manual start required...ffs.
By the time I did restart it on the key, I thought "I'm ordering that cable thing from AliExpress" - it's on its way.

Re: Stop-start delete
We can't be the only ones who have had the engine stop just before we pull out onto a junction. There's a good chance that a fair few people have had accidents that are totally not their fault due to stop start.
IMO it's dangerous.
I'll be buying one of these devices too.

Re: Stop-start delete
Yep it’s a pain in the arse! Not to mention the possible excess strain on the battery, starter and other engine components…
Surely it’s not good for the turbo either if you’ve been driving hard, and the engine suddenly stops at a red light, stopping oil flowing to the turbo?
The stop start canceller I linked works great and just stays in the “off” mode after pressing it once, just need to use a trim tool to remove the trim that holds the buttons and plug it inline with the switch!
The plug that goes into the switch did need a little trim to fit properly, just had to take a Stanley blade and trim 1-2mm off one side, wasn’t an issue and someone else mentioned it in the AliExpress reviews with pics that explain it better
